The Kreismuseum Wewelsburg, located in the unique triangular Wewelsburg, offers a fascinating combination of historic architecture and diverse exhibitions. The castle, built between 1603 and 1609 in the style of the Weser Renaissance, majestically overlooks the Almetal and is the only triangular castle in Germany that still exists in its original closed construction style.
The museum houses two main departments: The "Historical Museum of the Prince-Bishopric of Paderborn" presents the history of the Paderborn region from the Stone Age to the dissolution of the prince-bishopric in 1802. The "Memorial and Remembrance Site Wewelsburg 1933 – 1945" is dedicated to the history of the Schutzstaffel (SS) and the Niederhagen-Wewelsburg concentration camp during the Nazi era.
Various event spaces are available that provide a special historical atmosphere. The castle is wheelchair accessible, and public parking is available in the vicinity. There is also public transportation access, allowing visitors to travel conveniently.
Whether for exhibitions, seminars, or private celebrations – the Kreismuseum Wewelsburg offers a unique setting that impressively combines history and culture.
