On October 24, 1974, the Bürgervereinigung Hofheimer Altstadt (BHA) was founded. On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, the exhibition showcases the history of the association and its successful efforts for the preservation of the Hofheimer Old Town. The spirit of the times after the end of World War II was moving nationwide towards a "car-friendly city," and the modern concept of monument protection was just at the beginning of its development. Thus, plans for a large-scale renovation, which would have sacrificed a large part of the old building substance, also emerged in Hofheim in the 1960s. Resistance to these plans formed among the population, which found its organizational form in the BHA from 1974 onwards.

The Bürgervereinigung successfully engaged in political lobbying for the preservation and renovation of the Hofheimer Old Town, established connections with other old town associations beyond the region, and provided interested citizens of the Hofheimer Old Town with advice and practical assistance. Even after the renovation phase ended, it continued to advocate for the interests of the Hofheimer Old Town and continues to shape its character to this day.

A photo exhibition will showcase successful renovation projects. Historical photographs from the city archive and contemporary images by Hofheimer photographer Heiko Schmitt will be displayed.

During a reception at the German Embassy in Tbilisi, Georgia, a shot rings out. Who will take care of the body? Where can she find peace? Or will she trigger a war? The video opera "Death in Peace" asks questions about the limits of diplomacy in opulent, multi-layered, and precisely staged images. The large-scale works of director Ayla Pierrot Arendt examine how societal crises affect the bodies of individuals and influence interpersonal relationships.

"Death in Peace," created with a transnational team, was produced in Frankfurt and Tbilisi, partly under the immediate impression of the protests for democracy in May 2024. The captivating sonic world of the Georgian composer duo Nika Pasuri and Ani Zakareishvili hints at the mood between pessimism and renewal. An intense experience that powerfully reminds us of the fragility of peace.

The artist Kendall Lujan from Portland, Oregon, combines powerful vocals with a folk/jazz flair. Her distinctive voice blends inspiration from old jazz and old country with her very own interpretation of expression. She prefers to write when she is sad, but as she says, "sometimes people just want to be sad - it is temporarily pleasant because it makes happiness so much sweeter." Her debut EP is set to be released in early 2023.

The artist duo Giu & Toni, accompanied by their band The Delta Four, are excited to announce their new show.

Bridges Chamber Orchestra - "Half of me"

Under the title "Half of me," BKO will focus on questions of identity in September 2024.

The title-giving commission work "Half of me" was written by Atefeh Einali for the Bridges Chamber Orchestra. In Half of me, she describes her personal situation: one half of her is in her home country and the other half is in the country to which she migrated. This refers to both musical aspects and current societal and social events.

Further highlights of the program are compositions and arrangements by the orchestra members: Salim Salari (Dusk - Gorg o mish - Wolf and Sheep), Peter Klohmann (Alpha Carmelopardalis), several premieres, and an arrangement by Andrés Rosales of Béla Bartók's famous Romanian Folk Dances.

The orchestra will be conducted for the first time by Farhad Garayusifli. He initially studied conducting at the Ü. Hadschibayli-Baku Music Academy in Azerbaijan and completed his studies with a master's degree at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf. In Azerbaijan, he was, among other roles, the chief conductor of the Jazz Symphony Orchestra, gaining experience in the crossover sector and at the interface of jazz-typical instruments, European orchestral instruments, and traditional Azerbaijani instruments.

Since autumn 2019, the Bridges Chamber Orchestra has united freelance musicians and their instruments from various regions of the European, Asian, and American continents. It has been the orchestra in residence at the Casals Forum in Kronberg since 2022 and will make its debut in the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg in August 2024 as part of the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival.

The orchestra members are experts in Arabic, Persian, and European classical music, jazz, contemporary music, Eastern European folklore, as well as various forms of Central Asian and Latin American music. Starting from their diverse backgrounds, the musicians compose and arrange their pieces themselves. The result is transcultural music.

When writer Paul Sheldon kills off the main character of his successful novel series "Misery," he wants to dedicate himself to more demanding literature. But hardly has he completed a new, more profound book when he has an accident on an icy road in the Colorado mountains and becomes trapped in his car. Nurse Annie finds him, frees him from the wreckage while he is severely injured, and takes him to her remote farm to care for him.

It turns out that Annie is Paul's biggest fan and loves the character Misery above all else. That she had to die in the last novel is something she cannot accept, and she devises a plan. With brutal violence, she forces the helpless Paul to write another installment and bring Misery back to life. A game of mutual dependencies escalates further and further. Paul realizes that he must plan his greatest story yet: how to escape with his life.

In 1990, Stephen King's bestseller "Misery" was successfully adapted into a film starring Kathy Bates and James Caan. The screenplay was written by Oscar winner William Goldman, who also authored the stage play. It premiered on Broadway in 2015.

In the blink of an eye, the band Black Velvet transforms any space into a real Irish pub: with lively music and some witty comments.

Peter Wendel (guitar, banjo, mandolin, vocals), Christian Hartung (violin, cello, vocals), and Udo Hafner (guitar, flutes, bodhran, vocals) are Black Velvet. Udo Hafner likes to present himself as an entertainer in front of the audience: "Open your mouth, sing louder rather than quietly, the lyrics are meaningless anyway." This works and exudes vitality, joy, and spontaneity.

Plenty of jigs, reels, polkas, and ballads invite participation and listening, the harmonious singing of the three impresses as much as their instrumental virtuosity.

Black Velvet has been together since 1985 and has released several CDs, the latest one called "Pure" was released just last year.

20 years after "Prison Fantasy", Siggi & Horst are gearing up for the final blow. Back then, in the first privatized prison in Hünfeld - today in their own senior prison. Yes, it really exists, the prison for retirees. And who would fit in better than the two of them. However, priorities have changed. Is the cell wheelchair accessible? Can one receive breakfast television? Is there water aerobics in the indoor pool, and can one eat swim noodles? And who will be in the neighboring cells this time?

When the new, feminist, honest man, embodied by Robert Habeck, suddenly rides to the front himself to deliver weapons, one knows that things are not as simple as they were in the 80s when the world was still okay for old, white, heterosexual women. The multi-award-winning cabaret artist aims to bring wisdom, warmth, and lust into the cold banking city. A mission not to be missed.
