In the Goethe Year (commemorating his 275th birthday), we take a look at the influence of the poet on the composers of his time and encounter two dynamic and urgent personalities: Beethoven, who found a kindred spirit in the liberty-loving Egmont and composed the music for Goethe's drama. The overture summarizes the events and concludes with the brilliant "Sinfonia" that proclaims victory over the oppressors.

A premiere of Mozart? Indeed, as the oboists Gotthard Odermatt and Albrecht Mayer have reconstructed a concerto from a fragment that is set to be performed in its entirety for the first time. And once again Beethoven: The "Eroica" was considered by the composer himself to be his "greatest" symphony. He withdrew his dedication to the revolutionary Napoleon Bonaparte when he crowned himself emperor, but the heroic nature of the work still reflects Beethoven's enthusiasm...

These works will now be performed by the MDR Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Albrecht Mayer on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 7:30 pm at the Liebfrauen Concert Hall in Wernigerode.

Ornamenta is a cultural program in Pforzheim and the Nordschwarzwald region that takes place from July 5 to September 29, 2024. On new routes with art and design, visitors experience exhibitions, public artworks as permanent installations, and events at more than 20 locations in the Nordschwarzwald.

For three months, the municipalities in the region are expanded through five thematic neighborhoods. These new communities with the names Inhalatorium, Solartal, Bad Databrunn, Schmutzige Ecke, and Zum Eros address topics that concern the people of the region and Europe alike. From sunshine and clean air to social taboos and technology, each thematic community serves as a place of interaction: local associations showcase unexpected partnerships with international cultural practitioners, traditional institutions meet progressive artists, regional industries are enriched by ideas from young designers.

With songs like "Sound of Silence," the American duo Simon & Garfunkel created poetic anthems for an entire generation and secured their place in music history with "The Boxer" and "Bridge over Troubled Water."
For several years, the duo Graceland has been immersing themselves intensively in the musical spirit of their idols with "A Tribute to Simon and Garfunkel." Always with the necessary respect for the great compositions and the ambition to offer musically high-quality interpretations of Simon & Garfunkel's world hits. Felix Mendelssohn was presented to the famous poet prince in Weimar as a young student, earned his admiration and recommendation, and could consequently start a rapid career as a composer and conductor of his own works. Different conditions applied to his equally talented sister Fanny, who composed in secret, was banned from performing, and suffered greatly from it emotionally. Nevertheless, Fanny let her artistic "light" shine on Goethe's texts and maintained a very close relationship with her successful brother throughout her life. An evening of music and texts by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Fanny Hensel. The Egmont Trio performs with Luiza Labouriau, violin, Martin Knörzer, cello, and Gilad Katznelson, fortepiano.

In our music series "Global Women – Fine Music," we present to you exceptional female musicians from various countries who blend the musical traditions and folk songs of their nations with modern jazz, soul, and funk.

The ensemble Mother, led by German-Greek double bassist Athina Kontou, engages with the musical culture of her Greek homeland: traditional dances, Ottoman folk music, and contemporary Greek music shape their compositions. Another expressive musician in our series "Global Women – Fine Music."

Enjoy a deer concert with us at Buchhorster Maase in the heart of Darßwald.

The Buchhorster Maase is a meadow and a traditional place for the rutting season of red deer, who can be found there during the evening hours. With a good pair of binoculars, you can not only hear but also see the animals.
The event is conducted by experts from the Friends of the National Park Boddenlandschaft e.V. on a voluntary basis.
The meeting point is on the g-Gestell path at the junction of Mecklenburger Weg. Arrival by bicycle or on foot. Approximately 3 km from Wieck and Prerow, about 4 km from Born, and around 10 km from Ahrenshoop.

At the meeting point, you will receive a lot of information about red deer and the national park. Afterwards, we will head to the observation platform. This platform has benches and offers protection from sun, wind, and rain. We recommend warm clothing, seat cushions, and a good pair of binoculars.
The duration of the event is flexible, even though the announcement states 2 hours. Depending on the weather and the intensity of the deer rut, it may take shorter or longer. Unfortunately, you cannot leave the event independently before it ends.

Should the excursion be canceled due to force majeure (heavy rain, storm, hurricane), we regret that we cannot refund the purchase price. The tickets will remain valid for the Darßer Arche. The remaining amount will be counted as a donation to the Friends' association. We thank you for your understanding.

Vocal and vocal-instrumental mixed settings of literature, overt and subtly political, are brought to life through recitations and moderations by Ralph DUTLI (*1954), a poet, biographer, and translator of MANDELSTAM who is based in the City of Literature Heidelberg. Works by Sergej NEWSKI (composition commission, world premiere), Steffen SCHLEIERMACHER, Franz SCHUBERT, Hanns EISLER, and Hermann SCHERCHEN, as well as anonymous musical settings of poems by Georg HERWEGH, Ferdinand FREILIGRATH, among others, will be performed by the SCHOLA HEIDELBERG and the ensemble aisthesis under the direction of Walter Nußbaum.

The foundling Mowgli grows up well-protected in a wolf pack in the jungle. However, one day the message of the dangerous tiger Shere Khan's return spreads, who wants to kill Mowgli because he is a human. Therefore, the wolf council decides that Mowgli should be taken to the human settlement. Bagheera, the black panther, takes on this task and sets off through the jungle with Mowgli. But Mowgli would rather go his own way. Thus begins an exciting adventure about friendship, but also the dangers of the jungle. He meets the kind-hearted bear Baloo, he gets kidnapped by monkeys. Kaa, the snake, tries to deceive him. The tiger Shere Khan has him on the menu. But Mowgli is not only brave, he is also clever, and manages to scare Shere Khan away. He finds friends in Baloo, Bagheera, and the vultures, who help him navigate through the jungle, but then unexpectedly a girl appears and Mowgli gets along very well with her. Now, many paths are open to him...

Leni is unhappy and eventually decides on a new life: among horses! How this could happen will be told to you in a musical way by three musicians from the Aachen Symphony Orchestra.

What is a seat cushion concert?
A seat cushion concert lasts about half an hour. 30 minutes before the start of the performance, children are invited to paint or craft on the theme of the respective seat cushion concert to get into the mood for the show. After the performance, children can try out the instruments together with the musicians they saw and, above all, heard during the performance.
