… a must for all fans of 70s progressive rock…
The Frankfurt instrumental band Glasgow Coma Scale, named after a scale used in medicine to assess consciousness disorders, is primarily categorized in the media as a post-rock band. So is it a pretty relaxed grooving experience? Certainly not – a tremendous energy surge flows through the sound of GCS. Genre-typical guitar loops alternate with crashing riffs; the band operates not only from their own scene but rather merges different styles.
The band has the fascinating ability to change the timbre within a piece almost imperceptibly yet profoundly. When a mystical electronic snippet starts a song, it initially sounds strongly ambient, but through a sensitive handling of intensity, tension building, and pressure, it quickly develops into a highly energetic track, always powerful and strong, captivating and ecstatic. Themes wonderfully develop in swirling repetitive guitars into ever higher spheres and open your mind. It’s almost a consciousness-expanding drug – it’s simply remarkably good music.
The compositions exude a strong, suggestive force, allowing images and landscapes to grow in your brain's twists. Consciousness expansion on a note basis. Get in, buckle up, and enjoy the trip with Glasgow Coma Scale.
