JMO: three countries – one language!
The music of JMO – Jan Galega Brönnimann (Switzerland), Moussa Cissokho (Senegal) and Omri Hason (Israel) – revives the art of storytelling. The sparkling clear sound of the Kora (traditional African harp with 22 strings) meets the sonorous, smoky tones of the bass clarinet, supported by the various percussion instruments of Omri Hason. The interplay of Moussa Cissokho, Jan Galega Brönnimann, and Omri Hason captivates with beautiful melodies and rhythmic elegance – during their unforgettable live concerts, the trio oscillates between magically transfigured moments and rhythmically explosive heights. An authentic and contemporary chamber music emerges.
The trio transcends boundaries between traditional and modern sounds from Africa, Europe, and the Orient. The repertoire stems from all three musicians and showcases their diverse influences. The meeting of the three cultures, the selection of instruments, and the rich treasury of ideas, melodies, and rhythms make the music an unforgettable listening adventure! The music has evolved significantly. Each instrument has found its place.
Moussa Cissokho dreams of a liberated Africa. His lyrics speak of longing, love for his mother, mysterious rivers, or experiences at border controls in Europe. He is part of the 42nd generation of the famous Cissokho Kora dynasty, which has shaped West African music tradition for over 1000 years.
The first CD “Al nge taa” was internationally celebrated by the press and the audience and is already in its third edition.
“Dandoula Tala” is the title of the second CD and means “no borders” in Mandinka. The 2000 pressed CDs are already soon sold out.
JMO has been on the international scene for 9 years now, performing in Japan, France, Israel, Slovakia, Holland, Germany, Spain, England, the Baltics, Austria, Moldova, Czech Republic, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Italy, Romania, Norway, and Switzerland.
