One is probably not entirely mistaken in describing Simon & Garfunkel as the most popular music duo of all time.
Founded in 1964 by Paul and Art, who had known each other since elementary school, both outsiders connected by a great love for music.
With "Sound of Silence," they achieved international breakthrough, and Simon & Garfunkel became not only icons of folk rock but also figureheads for an entire generation of pacifists. However, as much as their voices harmonized in their songs, so great was the disharmony of their "on-and-off" relationship. Art Garfunkel always drew focus with his angelic voice, although the undeniable musical brain of the duo was Paul Simon.
After only five very successful albums, Simon & Garfunkel permanently separated in 1971, although they occasionally performed together for special occasions.
Vanessa Eckart and Katharina Müller-Elmau, in "The Harmony Game," not only dedicate themselves to the music but also illuminate the friendship of the two, largely marked by jealousy and suspicion: What led them to work through their issues with each other, where did the frequent disharmony in their private lives come from, and the perfect harmony on a musical level? And what actually comes out when you view success, ambition, envy, rivalry, affection, and animosity from a female perspective?
"The Harmony Game" – an evening full of harmonies, with stories, anecdotes, background facts, and
above all, almost two dozen outstanding songs.
By and featuring Vanessa Eckart and Katharina Müller-Elmau
"Müller-Elmau and Eckart perform their program 'The Harmony Game' in the wonderful series 'A Bow to...' at the Metropoltheater. The opening number 'Mrs. Robinson' overwhelms the audience so much that the singers were left astonished by its effect on the premiere night." (Abendzeitung)
