From being kicked out by his wife, Tom, the likeable hero in the thicket of relationships, encounters his caveman ancestor in the "magical underwear circle," who shares millennia-old wisdom with him: Men are hunters and women are gatherers. A fact that human evolution has not been able to change to this day. What the average man has always suspected, Tom now knows first-hand and wonders: "Why don't we just consider women and men as completely different cultures? With different languages, different behaviors, and different origins?" Empowered by this realization, Tom analyzes the strange universe of gatherers: This mysterious world of best friends, shopping, and sex. With immense need for communication, dry humor, and an ironic perspective, Tom also observes the lifestyle of the hunter. He reveals what fulfillment "sitting around without talking" can mean, why men have to channel surf through the TV program, and that a conversation among hunters begins and ends with the words "Let's go to the basement and drill stuff."
The original script by Rob Becker became the most successful solo piece in the history of Broadway. And here in this country, CAVEMAN, in the direction of Esther Schweins and the translation by Kristian Bader, has been a long-running success on stage since the year 2000. Thanks to its pointed inventiveness and the affectionate exploration of deep truths alongside amusing clichés, CAVEMAN is more than ever a must-see for all those who are in a relationship, have been, or want to be. It turns the "giant task of relationships" into an unforgettable entertaining evening.
