World of Lights presents – Winterleuchten in Westfalenpark Dortmund

This year, Westfalenpark Dortmund invites you to the popular Winterleuchten, taking place from December 7, 2024, to January 5, 2025. This enchanting event transforms the park into a radiant winter landscape, where light art and magical atmosphere merge into a unique experience.

The Winterleuchten is a highlight of the Dortmund winter season and delights visitors of all ages. Family-friendly and diverse in its offerings, the event provides an unforgettable way to enjoy the cold season in a special manner.

Light art and new attractions: Look forward to a wide selection of light objects and installations that transform Westfalenpark into a glowing winter wonderland. This year, the largest and most impressive objects await you:

• “The Ship” – 7 meters high, 6 meters long, and equipped with 2,500 controllable LEDs – A colorful sea of light that creates the impression of the ship majestically gliding in the breeze.

• “For Elise” – An installation with 2-meter high pyramids and 1.20 x 1.20 meter large glowing cubes, shining in sync with Beethoven's "For Elise" and transforming the park into a symphonic light show.

• “The Duck” – This charming light installation, 2 meters tall, floats on the pond at Kaiserhain and brings cheerful moments.

In addition to the spectacular light artworks, there are projections on various surfaces in the park that tell stories and create an immersive environment that captivates young and old alike.

Culinary offerings:
Visitors can also look forward to a diverse gastronomic offering that provides additional culinary highlights during the event.

Henrik Freischlader is still considered a hidden gem for those who have never heard of him. The German guitarist and singer has shared the stage with B.B. King, Gary Moore, Peter Green, Johnny Winter, Joe Bonamassa, and the Tedeschi Trucks Band, and has become an indispensable part of the international blues scene after numerous tours throughout Europe.
His virtuoso and passionate guitar playing, his rough distinctive voice, and a sense of good grooves have shaped his unmistakable style over the years.
The multi-instrumentalist has released 11 studio albums and 7 live albums since 2006, with almost always a new album in the works on his label Cable Car Records.
In 2024, he will be back on tour with his well-rehearsed band. KEEP PLAYING is the motto under which each concert becomes a unique and special experience, as every evening is different – there is improvisation, free jamming, and the setlist is regularly expanded.

Rafael Cortés can be seen on pretty much every major stage in Europe, whether it's in the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Congress Hall in Warsaw, or on Lithuanian television, but he prefers to conclude his annual tour with a special concert where he even encourages the audience to sing along, at Schloss Borbeck in his hometown of Essen.

For many people in Essen, this concert has already become a Christmas tradition, and some attendees commented on past concerts with the words "This is the starting signal for the Christmas season! When you're sitting here, singing along, and the beautiful ambiance surrounds you, you feel the magic of Christmas like you only knew from your childhood." You couldn't give a nicer compliment to Rafael Cortés, the self-proclaimed "biggest Christmas fan in the world."

The local hero will present his audience with precise flamenco runs and fiery rhythms, while putting together a Christmas repertoire that melts hearts even in the cold season - an evening of relaxation, joy, and getting into the spirit of Christmas!

Unfortunately, we cannot offer parking spaces on our premises. There are parking spaces and some parking garages around our brewery. Due to the downtown location and our proximity to a vocational school and the Bermuda3eck, it can be difficult to find a (free) parking space, especially in the evening hours. Therefore, we recommend arriving by train.

Ray Wilson wanted to, as the frontman of GENESIS the man from the Scottish town of Dumfries has sung in stadiums worldwide and delighted crowds. But he himself is happiest when he has his audience close to him and not a kilometer away: The man with the voice that bathes in passion prefers to sing at close range.

For us, this voice is now part of the church calendar. Ray likes Christuskirche and Christuskirche likes him: When he sings, it's Advent, the time to explore oneself, and then it's almost like each of his songs that takes you back to your own life, to the feeling of life from the past. Back then, when "Mama" came out or, further back, "Carpet Crawlers" or, a song of the century, "Solsbury Hill" or "No Son of Mine," one of those Genesis songs with remarkable substance or - and this song, Wilson once said, has nothing to do with Brexit despite all appearances - "Land of Confusion"...

It's like this: Whoever has such songs and can sing like no other celebrates life. "However, it is precisely his own pieces that have the most lasting effect over the course of the evening," Timo Lechner recently wrote: "Thoughtful songs with depth like 'The Actor,' in which an actor becomes aware that his glory days are behind him. Or 'Alone,' which deals with youth in Dumfriesshire county, where Wilson also likes to dream back to, like Brother Steven, who stands with him on stage."

What's up, Jocasta?

Told with just nine props, rapid role changes, and cabaret-style songs, the story of Oedipus, son of Laius, King of Thebes, is narrated. He unknowingly kills his own father. And later, as a reward for freeing Thebes from the Sphinx, he marries Jocasta, the king's widow and therefore his own mother. Bodo Wartke's excellent stage adaptation of the classic myth, which still has an impact today (Oedipus complex), is based on the work of Sophocles, one of the outstanding works of (theater) world literature of all time. King Oedipus offers an accessible entry into a rightfully famous mythical material and combines comedy and tragedy into a fantastic theatrical experience - making education fun.

With an innovation and investment, FLIC FLAC returns to Dortmund in December. In line with the new tent facilities that were used for the first time last year, this year brings a completely new seating arrangement: with more space and comfort on the usual steep grandstand for an even better FLIC FLAC experience. With "A Culprit Among Us," the name really says it all: Guests determine the plot and everyone can play the leading role - without even leaving their seats. This is done by the four actors who conduct their investigations from the stage. Sounds crazy? It is crazy! This new, exciting improv crime dinner is multimedia and of course delicious. Prior to the event, guests will be prepared for the theme: crime scene, method of murder, murder weapon - everyone is encouraged to let their thoughts run free. But be careful: don't make yourself look too suspicious! Everyone will be photographed before the piece, as after all, the culprit is among us...

Improv theater is a young and spontaneous form of theater that has only existed in Germany since the late 1980s. Everything arises from the moment. Scenes are developed and performed based on the audience's suggestions in the moment of play. No one knows in advance what will happen on stage. The charm of the spontaneously created and humorously performed theater that arises from the moment is surprising for both the audience and the actors.

The tantalizing 3-course menu will be served and created by the kitchen team at the restaurant in the streets in Solingen. The thrill for the nerves and the palate begins at 7 pm, with entry from 6:30 pm.

Directly in the entrance area, a typical railway system from the 1970s/80s in H0 scale, i.e., 1:87 with Märklin metal tracks from a private model railway cellar in Bonn, is presented.

On the ground floor, there is a well over 150 m² large exhibition room. There, 3 systems, two N gauge systems and the 27m long H0m system, as well as other exhibits are shown.

Under the name CasDöpp, the systems "Castrop" and "Döppersberg" were connected to form a system in 1:160 scale. The Castrop system with main lines and the Döppersberg, the diorama of the area around today's main station of Wuppertal, allow for varied train traffic.

Right next to it is the approximately 10m long model of the Swiss Lötschberg south ramp in 1:160 scale. There, the “Rolling Road” – the freight transport on rails – can be seen.

The 27m long H0m system (scale 1:87) with prominent motifs from the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland, such as the highest viaduct of the RhB, the Wiesener Viaduct, is presented fittingly with vehicles from the Rhätische Bahn.

In an office and commercial building in the east of Wuppertal, near the railway and suspension railway that meander through the Wupper valley, a model railway exhibition with 12 model systems of different scales (N gauge 1:160, H0m and H0 both 1:87, G gauge 1:22.5) is being set up.

Directly in the entrance area, a typical railway system from the 1970s/80s in H0 scale, i.e., 1:87 with Märklin metal tracks from a private model railway cellar in Bonn, is presented.

On the ground floor, there is a well over 150 m² large exhibition room. There, 3 systems, two N gauge systems and the 27m long H0m system, as well as other exhibits are shown.

Under the name CasDöpp, the systems "Castrop" and "Döppersberg" were connected to form a system in 1:160 scale. The Castrop system with main lines and the Döppersberg, the diorama of the area around today's main station of Wuppertal, allow for varied train traffic.

Right next to it is the approximately 10m long model of the Swiss Lötschberg south ramp in 1:160 scale. There, the “Rolling Road” – the freight transport on rails – can be seen.

The 27m long H0m system (scale 1:87) with prominent motifs from the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland, such as the highest viaduct of the RhB, the Wiesener Viaduct, is presented fittingly with vehicles from the Rhätische Bahn.

On the upper floor, it goes into the almost 600 m² large exhibition hall.

On a system area of 150 m², two thematically located systems in Germany in H0 scale, i.e., 1:87, have been newly built. There is the Ermannstadt system with about 90 m² and the Altenhundem system focusing on the station/steam locomotive depot with about 60 m².

Another over 13m long H0 system with the theme “Bahnhof Heubruch” shows the route around this station area. Today, this so-called "Rheinische Strecke" in Wuppertal is the Nordbahntrasse.

Two systems of the Barmer Bergbahn are dedicated to the theme of Wuppertal transport history, there is also a combined tram/suspension railway system and many exhibits of tram and suspension railway series displayed in showcases, all in 1:22.5 scale.

In the large hall, you will also find a narrow-gauge railway with Swiss motifs, such as the Filisur station, and vehicles of the Rhätische Bahn, like the steam locomotive "Heidi" in G gauge, i.e., 1:22.5.

In front of the building stands a 24m long articulated traction vehicle (GTW) of the Wuppertal suspension railway from the 1970s. This suspension railway train, which went into operation on 23.11.1972, is part of the exhibition and is barrier-free accessible. Inside, the almost 6 m long system named "Die Schwebebahn in der Schwebebahn" in 1:87 scale is presented.

Individual exhibits, loans from museums or private individuals or in private ownership, expand the exhibition with special features that are not everyday and are sometimes historically significant.

Sightseeing makes you hungry and thirsty. For refreshments, seating areas in the area of the “WUMILA-Bistro” invite you. Here, visitors can take a seat in first-class railway seat groups or on seats that come from the suspension railway GTW 72 No. 1.
