Jubilee tour spring 2025!
What a reason to celebrate! When the brother duo Slavko and Vilko Avsenik invented the legendary music style in 1953, they never dreamed of selling over 36 million records with their "Original Oberkrainer" and collecting countless national and international awards. What has its roots in the Slovenian hometown of Begunje is still seen today by many musicians and bands as inspiration and role model, living on in various forms and music mixes.
Countless melodies from the almost inexhaustible Avsenik treasure trove have become evergreens of folk music. Foremost among them is “Das Trompetenecho,” one of the most frequently performed instrumental pieces in the German-speaking music realm for decades and the title melody of the legendary "Musikantenstadl," but also "Auf der Autobahn," "Es ist so schön, ein Musikant zu sein," "Slowenischer Bauerntanz," "Hinterm Hühnerstall," and many others.
The musical triumph of the "Original Oberkrainer" lasted almost half a century. In the 90s, the group withdrew from active stage performance. But the story of the Oberkrainer sound was far from finished writing:
Fifteen years ago, in 2009, seven young musicians gathered around Slavko's grandson Sašo to pursue their musical passion and continue the compelling music of their grandfather! Slavko and his brother Vilko supported the new generation of musicians from the very beginning with all their knowledge, creativity, and inexhaustible wealth of experience. The combination of tradition and youth, paired with an incredible amount of musicality and joy of playing, proves to be an unbeatable recipe for success!
Sašo Avsenik and his Oberkrainer celebrated their TV debut in November 2009 during the Eurovisions show "Musikantenstadl." The group presented themselves charmingly and authentically to a million-strong audience, laying the foundation for their own professional career.
Since then, the group has been touring all over Europe: Austria, Germany, Switzerland, France, and the Benelux countries are just as much part of their performance terrain as Croatia. Two successful tours in Canada and the USA have been completed by the passionate musicians, followed by regular TV appearances in many major shows and being awarded the "Musi Edelweiß" by ORF as Newcomer of the Year 2012. Two of the total of six German-speaking studio albums released so far were awarded "Gold" in 2017 and 2019 for sales in Austria.
Currently, the group around Sašo Avsenik, who, like his grandfather, shines on the accordion, consists of Aleš Jurman on bass, baritone, and steirische harmonika, the versatile guitarist Matic Plevel, and Tomy Budin and Denis Daneu, who excel on the clarinet and trumpet. New is singer Luka Sešek, who joined in 2020. Not least, his victory at "Slovenija ima talent" in 2017 and his role as the lead in the musical "Mama Mia" demonstrate his vocal potential, which he now proudly and joyfully brings to the Oberkrainer after his successes in the Slovenian pop scene. His powerful voice gives the audience chills. He is joined by the beautiful exceptional singer Lucija Selak, who has been part of the group since 2019 and enriches their performances with her play on the steirische harmonika.
"It is so nice to be a musician" - for "Saso Avsenik und seine Oberkrainer," this is not just a song; it is much more the life attitude of the seven young musicians.
