Antje Rávik Strubel tells a refined story about ambition, power, and self-deception in »Der Einfluss der Fasane«.
A star of the Berlin theater scene, the gravitational center of the cultural world, has taken his own life. Hella Karl, head of the culture section of a major newspaper, previously wrote a highly regarded, consequential article about the celebrated man. Suddenly, Hella, who is usually not easily unsettled, can no longer control the events: she is held responsible for the star's death: Did he fail himself or did Hella Karl write him to death? »Der Einfluss der Fasane« tells cheerfully and grippingly of someone who loses control. Of the dynamics of excitement that, once set in motion, can no longer be controlled. A light-footed novel about heavy accusations, the struggle for words, and the calamity of media discourses.
Antje Rávik Strubel published, among others, the novels »Unter Schnee« (2001), »Fremd Gehen. Ein Nachtstück« (2002), »Tupolew 134« (2004), as well as the episodic novel »In den Wäldern des menschlichen Herzens« (2016). Her work has been honored with numerous awards, her novel »Kältere Schichten der Luft« (2007) was nominated for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize and was awarded the Rheingau Literature Prize and the Hermann Hesse Prize, while the novel »Sturz der Tage in die Nacht« (2011) was on the longlist for the German Book Prize. In 2019, she received the prize of the literature houses. Her novel »Blaue Frau« was awarded the German Book Prize 2021. The essay collection »Es hört nie auf, dass man etwas sagen muss« was published in 2022; in March 2025, the new novel »Der Einfluss der Fasane« will be released.
