In the autumn edition of Kunsttage in Hodenhagen, over 50 artists will present their work in the Aller-Meiße-Halle on November 9th and 10th. Exquisite and traditional handicrafts combined with trendy designs make this market a hidden gem in the region.
For the first time, the "woodturner" Frank Boje presents himself in Hodenhagen. His material is wood. At a specially brought lathe, he shows visitors how to create great ballpoint pens, toys, bowls, or exclusive household items from various wood scraps.
Soap has been handmade for thousands of years. This ancient craft is presented by Klaus-Michael Jähnig from Winsen. He uses purely plant-based oils from controlled organic cultivation for production. Essential oils give the soaps a pleasant fragrance, and with the addition of, for example, goat or sheep milk, they have a particularly caring effect. But there are also soaps made without fragrance additives for fragrance allergy sufferers presented in Hodenhagen.
A new trend is the recycling or upcycling of materials that are disposed of daily or no longer needed. The designer Bernd Jütterbock from Berlin uses discarded postal sacks, sails, or well-preserved blazers for the production of his interchangeable bags. The cover, which is also available separately, can be exchanged and is thereby suitable for various occasions. The cover is attached to the back of the bag with Velcro and additional snaps. A zippered pocket and a slip pocket are located inside and outside. The transformable bag is closed with a Velcro closure. The same intention is pursued by Ramadan Selaci from Ronnenberg. His exhibition materials include, among others, antique, solid silver forks and spoons. Each piece of jewelry is masterfully processed and simultaneously becomes a lively piece of history. The cutlery reveals its past through engravings and dates that have been preserved during processing. The artist designs and crafts jewelry pieces also from his clients' own cutlery, preserving the value of memories and personal connection. Thus, cutlery that has been passed down through generations with individual worth is transformed into unique pieces of jewelry such as pendants, rings, bracelets, or bottle openers.
The Peruvian Bertha Hantusch presents fashion made from alpaca at her stand. The alpaca fur from her homeland offers a comfortable and supple template for her work due to its low fat content. She creates garments suitable for children and colorful warm house slippers from the skin-friendly wool.
Some artists allow visitors to look over their shoulders while they work, with various demonstrations showcasing the creation of products and techniques such as napkin folding, laser engraving, jewelry making, and the production of door decorations.
The further offering is very diverse and ranges from artistic acrylic paintings, high-quality bookbinding works, garden decorations, children's clothing, lovingly crafted teddy bears, cheerful greeting cards, and gift packaging to crocheted animals.
After a pleasant stroll and discussions, the artist café invites guests to relax with small dishes and drinks. More than 30 different cakes and tortes, hot sausages, and potato salad are available to choose from.
