»Vivi Vassileva's performance sweeps the audience off their feet« Risto Joost, conductor (Westdeutsche Zeitung). She is celebrated not only for her brilliant technique, outstanding virtuosity, and athletic performance but also enchants with her fantastic charisma. Some people from Heilbronn have already experienced Vivi Vassileva in late 2024 together with WKO Artistic Partner Frank Dupree in the chamber concert series Under the Pyramid.
Now she returns to the Neckarstadt and presents John Corigliano's exuberant orchestral concert »The Conjurer« in the Harmonie. The idea of writing a concert for solo percussion and orchestra initially caused Corigliano, as he himself says, »blank horror«. Yet, at the request of percussionist Evelyn Glennie, he created a magnificent, energetic concert, divided into three parts: Wood, Metal, and Skin, which follow the materials of the respective percussion instruments, namely the marimba, the vibraphone, and the timpani. The percussion is at the center of the music, which seems tailor-made for Vivi Vassileva's energy.
The percussion fireworks are framed by Stravinsky's »Concerto in D« and a true classic. With his pure string piece, Stravinsky connects as one of the most significant composers of the 20th century to the Concerto grosso of the Baroque, particularly to Bach's Brandenburg Concertos. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Symphony No. 40 in G minor, whose globally famous theme, created in 1788, shows no signs of wear despite its diverse use from pop arrangements to mobile ringtones, is not just an absolute highlight for fans of Viennese classical music.
