To the funeral of his father, Prince Hamlet returns to the Danish court. After only a few weeks, his mother marries the brother of the deceased king, who ascends the throne.
Hamlet, alone in his grief, surrounded by sycophants and intriguers, is about to return to study in Wittenberg when the ghost of his father appears to him. He has been murdered. Hamlet vows to avenge the cowardly murder.
In the awareness of the time of creation, the production reflects our current experiences and portrays Shakespeare as an exceedingly relevant thinker of Europe. Hamlet places the individual with his scruples at the center of the tragedy and appeals to an audience that finds itself amid a strong political tension. The much lamented duty to take sides in times of war is palpably represented in the figure of Hamlet.

William Shakespeare (1564–1616), English dramatist and lyricist, is regarded as one of the most significant writers in world literature. The great poet was extremely prolific and left behind a fascinating literary legacy: His 37 plays (or 38 according to another count), 154 sonnets, and epic poems made him immortal. After a multitude of comedies, he wrote "Hamlet," his first tragedy, in 1606.

The Berlin director Lotte (Linda Schlepps) wants to stage “Marlene in Hollywood” with her variety theater group. In the leading role, Marlene shines through her mysterious friend Mathilde (Kathrin Kestler). Wolfgang (Wolfram Karrer), Bernd (Berthold Biesinger), and Luke (Luca Zahn) play the many men in Marlene's life, accompanying with music and chutzpah.

The new play by Hannes Stöhr comically yet tragically celebrates the great film diva Marlene Dietrich, who celebrated her love for both women and men. Marlene provoked and enchanted the whole world with her performances. In exile under the palms, "The Dietrich" got involved with refugees in Los Angeles, which became "Weimar on the Pacific." The world star Marlene categorically rejected role offers from the Nazis. In World War II, "Captain Dietrich" sings for the Allied soldiers. With curiosity and humor, we dive into the film world of the 30s and 40s and the music of that tumultuous time.

The three friends and colleagues are virtuosos on their instruments but always keep melody and the deeper meaning of the music at the center. They explore their compositions and improvise always as a team, creating fascinating musical structures.

The trio is enriched by the internationally acclaimed saxophonist Loren Stillman. The American alto and tenor saxophonist has an impressive resume. He has played in the bands of Charlie Haden and Paul Motian, among others, and is an absolutely extraordinary voice on his instrument. World-class is not an exaggeration in this case. Thus, it is easy for the four to bring aesthetics and ideals together while improvising – everything fits, they know and trust each other, and can simply let the music happen together.

The renowned theater Liberi, known for its modern family musicals, stages the hundred-year-old story by Edgar Rice Burrough in a contemporary version. Imaginative costumes, a playful, colorful set, and atmospheric lighting effects create the jungle world where Tarzan resides. Musically, the audience is taken on a diverse journey through different genres that impress with impressive arrangements and great emotions. A highly trained ensemble ensures that characters, music, and scenery on stage merge into a unique whole.

Exciting adventures in the jungle
A young family suffers shipwreck and - barely stranded on the African coast - is attacked by wild animals. Left behind is a little boy who is taken in and raised by the she-ape Kala, orphaned like her own child. But even though Tarzan finds a home among the apes and a good friend in the ape girl Tea, the leader Kerchak makes him feel that he does not truly belong with them even after years. The feeling of still having to find his place in the world gets stronger when Tarzan encounters humans for the first time. Professor Porter, his curious daughter Jane, and the shady Olivia Clayton are on an expedition to explore the jungle. Over time, Tarzan and Jane grow closer, but then events take a dramatic turn, and Tarzan and his ape family face great danger…

Elmar is an elephant. However, he is not at all elephant-colored like his herd around him - he is colorful! He wears all the colors one can imagine and is often a splash of color in the gray everyday life of the elephant herd. Elmar often encourages his fellow beings to make new experiences. He approaches every adventure with joy and is always ready to experience them with his friends!

Elmar is a staged reading for children aged 3 and older. It is mobile and can be performed directly on the carpet of daycares.

DAVID MCKEE (1935-2022) was a British freelance painter and children's book author of international fame. The series about the colorful Elmar is considered his most successful book series, with the latest book "Elmar und das Geschenk" published posthumously in the spring of 2023 by Thienemann-Esslinger Verlag.

For over twenty years, the sisters Karla-Maria Cording, Katharina Cording, and cellist Peer-Christoph Pulc have honed the Würzburger Klaviertrio into a phosphorescent sound body, which rests on three supporting pillars: Unity, Agility, Devotion. The nature of the vine, to develop over the years a deep and extensively branched root system, the three instrumentalists from the city with its centuries-old wine-growing tradition have in their blood and literally before their eyes during their rehearsals, as all three live, teach, and work in Würzburg. For over 21 years, the three exceptional musicians have been performing together and not only meet on the occasion of their concerts but refine and deepen their collective playing around 200 days a year.

The piano trio op. 17 was already her most famous work during Clara Schumann's lifetime. However, when her husband Robert later began to write trios himself, Clara felt her own work to be "entirely womanishly sentimental." And Joseph Joachim confessed to the composer in 1860: "I recall a fugato in the last movement - and that Mendelssohn once had great fun that I could not believe a woman could compose something so 'serious and competent.'" The fugato in the development of the finale is not the only evidence of the “serious and competent” style of composition of the work, which indeed aligns more with Mendelssohn's style than with Robert's.

The great tragic figure among the Bohemian composers of the 19th century was Bedřich Smetana. As a still grieving father, he buried his daughter Bedriska in the autumn of 1855. The piano trio that he wrote in her honor bears the moving dedication: “In memory of our first child Bedriska, who delighted us with her extraordinary musical talent, but was taken from us by merciless death at the age of four and a half years.” The music of the trio is the embodiment of these lines. Franz Liszt, who heard these heartbreaking tones in Prague in 1856, was one of the few who understood the significance of this work.

The three mouse brothers Franz, Willi, and Anton have made themselves at home with their friend Spider under a living room sofa. The three are doing great: Franz organizes mouse training on the springs every day to stay fit and be quick on the draw in case of an alarm; Willi takes care of delicious cookies that he can find to eat, and Anton diligently practices on his terribly squeaky violin. As long as they stay away from the vacuum cleaner, they have nothing to fear in their fine lives. However, Christmas is approaching, and at the Hoffmanns' – the adults, grandmothers, or children who own the apartment – turbulent preparations are underway.

The mice are also excited to make their own Christmas feast from this. Especially little Anton is very excited, as he is experiencing it for the first time. However, the great joy of the three comes to an abrupt halt when they discover the child's wish list for the Christ Child, which says: "I wish for nothing more than a cat." The Christmas celebration is in danger of turning into a catastrophe. To make matters worse, Aunt Lizzy from Berlin is coming to visit, who is far from good at assessing dangers...

With witty dialogues and great songs that quickly become earworms, "Anton – Das Mäusemusical" tells the story of how great heroic deeds are possible on little paws when everyone sticks together.

Woyzeck is at the very bottom of society. To be able to provide for his girlfriend Marie and their child, Woyzeck takes on every odd job that comes his way. He regularly shaves his captain and allows himself to be put on a pea diet by the doctor as part of a highly questionable medical experiment. Hounded, driven, and tormented, Woyzeck soon seems to be more of a trained animal than a free man. His Marie is mocked by society for the illegitimate child and is seen by the drum major, to whom she throws herself for a few earrings, only as a sexual object. As a result, Woyzeck loses his last grounding and drifts into a world of brutal fantasies. He obtains a knife.
Woyzeck, the dramatic fragment from the estate of Georg Büchner, who died at the age of 23, revolves around a person who is radically exploited by society and ultimately resorts to the knife. With three young actors, Edith Ehrhardt stages the linguistically powerful and vivid piece as an investigation of societal constraints and needs and as a search for what in us "lies, steals, whore, and murders." Woyzeck is a plaything of society, pushed around, excluded, hopeless. A driven man. Anyone could be Woyzeck.

Schubart im Wirtshaus - ein lyrischer Abend

Christian Friedrich Daniel Schubart enjoyed spending time in taverns. Occasionally, this earned him the accusation of leading a dissolute life. However, the tavern was for him a refuge from the narrowness of petit-bourgeois circumstances, for here he could speak more freely. With cleverly disguised criticism and biting pub humor, he entertained his audience in the inns of the country.

The Schubart Society and the theater of the city of Aalen bring the poet and thinker of the 18th century to life in the beer hall through his words. On two evenings in January, Schubart's poetry will be recited, explained, and interpreted.

In what danger is democracy after the super election year 2024? It is not only about external attacks, such as the ongoing Russian aggression that tests the cohesion of Western democracies. Democracy is also shaking from within, says Bernd Ulrich, deputy editor-in-chief of ZEIT and a leading analyst of German politics. The electoral success of the illiberals puts democracy under pressure. Gains by the right-wing populists and their radicalization are to be expected. These developments pose a serious threat to democratic values and institutions. Bernd Ulrich raises the painful question: How can it be that the liberal part of society is unable to master this phenomenon?

According to Ulrich, the fight against fascism cannot be won solely by fighting against fascism. In his numerous articles and books, Bernd Ulrich repeatedly emphasizes why the "reasonable" parties must arrive in the 21st century if they do not want to remain on the defensive. He points out how liberals can turn the tide with different politics and communication to preserve democratic structures and secure them for future generations.

For his journalistic work, Bernd Ulrich received the Henri Nannen Award in 2013 and the Theodor Wolff Award in 2015. In addition to numerous other books authored by him, the latest is "Democracy and Revolution" (2024), co-authored by Bernd Ulrich and historian Hedwig Richter.

We all know the game. There are rules that prevent the other person from thinking that you are dependent on this agreement. Cora Hübsch leaves nothing to chance, but the most important thing is that the timing of a call or return call is strategically perfect. She has already been on two dates with Daniel, and now it’s Saturday evening, and he said he would get in touch. As a woman of stature, Cora can of course enjoy her evening normally and casually wait for Daniel's call. Or not. Ildikó von Kürthy was born in 1968 in Aachen. She trained in Hamburg at the Henri Nannen School of Journalism, was an editor at “Brigitte” and “Stern,” and published “Mondscheintarif” as her first novel in 1999. The Merry Widow - Operetta by Franz Lehár - Johann-Strauss-Operetta-Wien

The Merry Widow is the most successful operetta by Franz Lehár. Famous titles like "Lippen schweigen," "Da geh‘ ich zu Maxim," and "Ja, das Studium der Weiber ist schwer" promise an entertaining evening. Singing soloists from Vienna, orchestra, choir, and ballet from the Johann-Strauss-Operetta-Wien present the exciting story with beautiful music in a classic production with magnificent costumes and a traditional stage design.

For family reasons, Count Danilo was not allowed to marry Hanna, a girl from the countryside. While he tries to forget his worries about this marriage prohibition with the grisettes, Hanna manages to marry the wealthy banker Glawari, who dies on their wedding night. As a rich widow, Hanna is very sought after by men. Danilo's love for Hanna reignites, but he is afraid to confess it to her - fearing that he would also be accused of only being interested in her money. But the situation becomes even more complicated. Hanna announces her engagement to Camille de Rosillon in order to protect Valencienne, who flirts with Camille and is almost caught by her husband. Only when this incident is resolved and Hanna pretends she cannot dispose of her inheritance, can Hanna and Danilo finally embrace.
