What happens when the same struggle must be fought over and over again? In “She was a friend of someone else,” Gosia Wdowik documents the fight for the right to abortion in Poland, which was almost completely abolished in October 2020. Based on a story from the German magazine Stern from 1971, in which 300 women shared their abortion experiences, the story of activists who wish to repeat this action in the Polish context is told. Along the way, they encounter resistance and suffer numerous setbacks. The evening questions the connection between activism and burnout and tells, in a choir of women's voices, through interview videos and Telegram chats, a story of highs and lows in the fight for women's self-determination.

SUND YARD "Winter Heart" Concert and Reading of a Special Kind in Advent

One voice. One piano. And in between countless nuances full of warmth and devotion, simplicity and opulence. Elena Janis and Wolfgang Torkler are SUND YARD. She bridges old German folk songs to modern song-jazz with her voice. He weaves the perfect sound carpet for this moving voice with his piano playing. There are well-known Christmas tunes like "Es kommt ein Schiff, geladen", "Oh du Fröhliche" or "Es ist ein Ros´ entsprungen" in such reverent-simple versions that one gladly embarks on this timeless musical journey. A special treat is a selection of texts by Erich Kästner from the cycle "Die 13 Monate" and a text by Joachim Ringelnatz set to music by Wolfgang Torkler, which beautifully fit into the overall picture of the atmospheric old Christmas songs. This is also available on CD. With their program "Christmas Songs - Christmas Songs", the duo went on a release tour through castles, churches, and theaters all over Germany in winter 2018/19. Selected stories for Advent, the quieter, the lesser-known, read by Elena Janis, form the atmospheric foundation during the live concert experience.
Thus, in the snowstorm and hustle of the pre-Christmas period, a precious moment of contemplation and pause arises. This fascinates and touches even the most hidden winter heart.

Wen Hui, a pioneer of contemporary dance in China, created the piece “Report on Giving Birth” in 1999, based on interviews with women about pregnancy and childbirth. 25 years later, in “New Report on Giving Birth,” we experience four dancers who encounter each other as mothers, non-mothers, and women with migration stories from China, Thailand, Iran, Italy, and Germany.

The festive season is just around the corner, and this year offers a concert experience of the highest class, presented by one of the most well-known hit-makers and voices in Germany - Felix Räuber. The former frontman and singer of the pop band Polarkreis 18, globally famous for their number-one hit "Allein Allein", gives classic Christmas songs a completely new musical attire this year. A magical and unique concert experience, interpreted in Räuber's unmistakably modern, dreamy pop style. Christmas has never been heard like this before. Experience a feast for the senses and for the whole family, which, alongside moving music, also offers exciting stories and visual impressions for you.

Imagine you had to title your first solo show, and all that comes to mind is: "live".

Sure, at first glance it seems as though Fred Costea didn't dig too deep into the creative box for the title. But that's exactly the point – "live" is not a random title: It's a clear statement. After shaking up social media with his viral character comedy videos, it's now time to conquer the audience "live" and in color.

Fred has a knack for the zeitgeist, an ability to address things that we all feel but can rarely articulate so precisely. He has been on the stand-up comedy stages of Germany for a few years now and delights with a mix of playful ease, a sensitivity for good texts, and anecdotes that are taken straight from life.

Who doesn't know the most famous opera by Giacomo Puccini? Created in 1896 based on a drama by Henri Murger, it takes us into the enticing yet sobering world of the Parisian Bohemians. Instead of finding freedom and independence, the artist friends around the poet Rodolfo find mainly one thing: coldness. When the pretty neighbor Mimì enters their attic asking for a light, at least a little warmth seems to enter Rodolfo's life. However, it soon becomes clear: even this flame must pay its tribute to poverty...

In four spotlights and with his unmistakable emotional musical language, Puccini creates characters who have not lost any of their charm and wit to this day. As infectious as they may be in their youth and joy of life, they are equally moving in their sorrow. Matthias Reichwald narrates Puccini's masterpiece very close to these characters, their desires, and contradictions, and in German - so that one is not only moved when Mimì dies accompanied by enchanting orchestral music but also experiences the witty and self-ironic life of the Bohemians up close.

In songs and words, the festival of festivals is tailored here; usually sharp-tongued and musical, cheeky and quiet, with meaning but without solemnity. Whether it’s the quarrelsome couple from “Every Year Again” or a completely new interpretation of Christmas markets – this program brings many things to light in a new way and allows you to look forward to your own celebration in a relaxed manner!

Christine Schütze was born in Hamburg and was already a prizewinner in youth music competitions as a child. In addition to classical piano repertoire, Christine Schütze has been presenting cabaret solo programs with her own texts and music for several years. The press attests to her intellect and temperament, praising her as a “top-notch cabaret performer.”

In this thrilling piece, several mysterious murders take place in a theater, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats.

But luckily, there is Ms. Wunderlich, an exceptionally clever detective, who sets out to find the culprits.

With wit and charm, she solves the puzzles and brings light into the darkness.

Cross-border is this musical meeting, between contemporary jazz and traditional Arab music. A string quartet mediates between the two poles, which merge into a completely new musical equator throughout the concert. In addition to the existing arrangements of the Spielvereinigung Sued under the direction of Johannes Moritz, the oud player Basel Alkatrib, the percussionist Alaa Salah Eddine, as well as the singer Rosa Rau and the Ensemble Ambidexter, eight new pieces are specially arranged for the project and the unique lineup.

In February 2022, there was a collaboration between Basel Alkatrib, Johannes Moritz, and the Youth Jazz Orchestra of Saxony. The two big band arrangements presented in this context, created by Johannes Moritz from pieces by Basel Alkatrib for the concerts in Dresden and Leipzig, marked the starting point for the further intensive cooperation between the two musicians.

The history of the Spielvereinigung Sued begins in the summer of 2007 on a soccer field in Mexico. Leipzig jazz music students participate in a concert tour against a handful of orphanage children from León and experience a devastating defeat of 0:7. From the failure, the group reflects on their true abilities. Back in Leipzig, they found a big band, and the Spielvereinigung Sued is born.

Since then, the 18-member team has dedicated itself with great joy in playing and a love for experimentation to both interpretations of traditional jazz orchestra literature and their own contemporary arrangements and compositions. With the urge for constant renewal, the Spielvereinigung Sued continually seeks reinforcement from renowned guest soloists, composers, and arrangers. The enthusiasm with which the musicians confront different jazz styles and re-explore the musical expressions of the traditional big band jazz is reflected in their fresh, powerful playing. One for all, all for one!

They hate each other, they love each other, they argue about raising children, about Putin and vegan dog food, the third world war and the perfect rolling suitcase. In this furious cabaret piece by Philipp Schaller and Michael Frowin, Beate Laaß, Hannes Sell, and Mario Grünewald are unleashed on each other. Without a paramedic and armed to the teeth with punchlines.

With great enthusiasm, Theo and Bernhard play the Christmas legend, and since their enthusiasm knows no bounds, they take on all the roles themselves - the archangel Gabriel, the grumpy carpenter Joseph, the frustrated housewife Mary, Roman tribunes, simple shepherds, and the wise men from the East. Of course, this leads to various mishaps that force the two performers into adventurous improvisations. Experience a theater fun that tells the Christmas story differently, with many surprises that are part of this holiday.
