In der nordischen Mythologie zieht Skinfaxi den Wagen von Dagr (Tag) über den Himmel, wobei seine leuchtende Mähne den Himmel und die Erde erhellt. Hrímfaxi zieht den Wagen von Nótt (der Nacht) und versprüht mit seinem Gebiss „Schaum“, der als Tau fällt. Verbunden in einem ewigen Kreislauf galoppieren sie durch die wechselnden Schattierungen des Lichts. Im flüchtigen Zwielicht zwischen Morgengrauen und Abenddämmerung vollzieht sich ein Wechsel – der Beginn einer neuen Reise.
Dawn von Adam Seid Tahir ist die erste Performance einer Reihe, die die nordische Mythologie und das Runenalphabet des Elder Futhark durch eine queere afro-nordische Brille neu interpretiert. Das Stück hat seinen Ursprung in der Rune Dagaz – ein Symbol für den Tag, die Morgendämmerung und das Erwachen – und erforscht die Macht von Tag und Nacht, Licht und Dunkelheit, die oft fälschlicherweise auf eine moralische Binarität von Gut und Böse beschränkt werden. Die Arbeit, die zugleich eine Fortsetzung der Mythenbildung und eine politische Geste ist, lässt einen Schwarzen queeren Körper Teil werden von nordischer Mythologie.

In Norse mythology, Skinfaxi pulls Dagr’s (day’s) chariot across the sky, its radiant mane lighting the heavens and earth. Hrímfaxi draws Nótt’s (night’s) chariot, scattering “froth” from its bite, which falls as dew. Bound in an eternal cycle, they gallop through shifting shades of light. In the fleeting twilight between dawn and dusk, a moment of exchange occurs—the start of a new journey.
Dawn by Adam Seid Tahir is the first performance in a series reinterpreting Norse mythology and the Elder Futhark runic alphabet through a queer Afro-Nordic lens. Rooted in the rune Dagaz—symbolizing day, dawn, and awakening—the piece explores the power of day and night, light and dark, often falsely confined to a moral binary of good and evil. At once a continuation of mythmaking and a political gesture, the work inserts a Black queer body into Nordic mythology.
