"Something is happening here, but you don’t know what it is."
So it probably went for the parents at the aborted school concert in Hibbing in 1959, the guests at Cafe Wha? in 1961, the visitors of the Newport Folk Festival in 1965, and many who have ever experienced the musical phenomenon Bob Dylan live.
Daniel Holzberg takes us on a kaleidoscopic journey of impressions: songs, lyrics, prophecies, anecdotes, and statements from an iconic artist who has captivated his fans as often as he has escaped their expectations.
"Don't Think Twice" leads us from Dylan's beginnings in folk music through the sudden reversal (perhaps also return) to rock 'n' roll to his status as one of the most versatile songwriters of our time. And it addresses the most important questions: What influence did he have at a very young age on the music of the 60s, what did he mean to many people from that era, and what significance was imposed on him - the mouthpiece of a generation, prophet, threat to society, organic farmer?
All "truths" about Bob Dylan will be viewed from different perspectives this evening and remain elastic - after winning the Oscar and Nobel Prize in Literature, the legendary musician wins the prize of elusiveness.
Conversely, Daniel's love for Dylan's vivid lyrics and catchy songs is tangible, as he is not focused on copying but rather on an attempt at spiritual contact with this exceptional figure of the music business.
In total, he will play 20 songs (from over 800 possible!), lamenting the world with dylan-esque disillusionment, while also paying tribute to his role models, companions, and critics, including Joan Baez, Pete Seeger, Allen Ginsberg, Mr. Jones, and of course Woody Guthrie.
