„Grasping, virtuosic, rapturous“
Dürener Zeitung
The allure of the unusual combination of flute-viola-harp lies in the extraordinary richness of sound colors that arise from the diversity of the individual instruments and their blending. The combination of a wind, plucked, and string instrument sounded very unusual to the ears of the turn of the century. It is undoubtedly thanks to Impressionism and particularly to the composer Claude Debussy that numerous compositions for this chamber music formation subsequently emerged. Today, it can be regarded as a classical ensemble of the 20th century.
Fascinated by the sound possibilities of this combination, three young musicians founded the Trio Charolca in 2005. Until 2015, Charlotte Balzereit played the harp as a founding member. From 2015 to 2018, Lena-Maria Buchberger was a member of the ensemble and currently Andreas Mildner is the new harpist of the trio.
Over time, they have developed an extensive repertoire that includes original compositions, adaptations of suitable older works, as well as contemporary pieces. Meanwhile, the Trio Charolca has performed on numerous concert stages and is increasingly establishing itself as an outstanding ensemble of its kind. Their interest in contemporary music as well as their enthusiasm for new sound colors form the foundation of their contrast-rich and intelligently designed programs. The Trio Charolca also seeks collaboration with composers like Sofia Gubaidulina and (at the time) Harald Genzmer, leading to new insights and inspirations for concert design. The trio has recorded a CD with works by Harald Genzmer for the label Thorofon.
Anne-Cathérine Heinzmann is a guest on numerous concert stages and international festivals and has been one of the most renowned German flutists of her generation for several years. As a soloist, chamber, and orchestral musician, she regularly performs in Germany and worldwide. The Hamburg native comes from a long-standing musical family and began her musical training as a child. She was educated by professors Jean-Claude Gérard (Stuttgart), Jeanne Baxtresser (New York), and Michael-Martin Kofler (Salzburg). She is a prizewinner of many national and international competitions and has been supported by the German Academic Scholarship Foundation, the chamber music foundation 'Villa Musica', the German Foundation Music Life, and the German Music Council. From 1999 to 2016, Anne-Cathérine Heinzmann was the deputy principal flutist with the Opern- und Museumsorchester Frankfurt am Main. From 2009 to 2018, she was appointed professor of flute at the Hochschule für Musik Nürnberg, where she led a highly successful class. In October 2018, she accepted an offer for the same position at the renowned Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen.
Roland Glassl has drawn attention as a prizewinner in many national and international competitions. These successes led to concerts in Germany, the USA, Canada, Italy, and England, including his solo debut at the Wigmore Hall in London with his pianist Shao-Yin Huang. From 1999 to 2015, he was a permanent member of the Mandelring Quartet, with which he gives concerts worldwide and has produced numerous CDs. As a chamber music partner, he plays with artists such as Leon Fleischer, Miriam Fried, Michael Tree, Walter Nothas, Atar Arad, Shigeo Neriki, Hariolf Schlichtig, the Jean Paul Trio, the Avalon String Quartet, and the Henschel Quartet. Roland Glassl has also received invitations to leading festivals. From 2004 to 2018, he succeeded Tabea Zimmermann as professor of viola at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt/Main. In October 2018, he accepted a position at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich. The Ingolstadt native comes from a family of violin makers and plays an instrument made by his father.
Andreas Mildner is certainly one of the most interesting harpists of his generation. Through "technical brilliance" and his "incredibly aesthetic playing with sound colors," he repeatedly manages to captivate both press and audiences. At the age of six, he discovered his passion for the harp. In 1999, he entered the early training class at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg with Prof. Gisèle Herbet. In 2007, he graduated "with distinction" and completed his studies with the master class in 2009. Mildner has won prizes in various competitions. In 2005 and 2008, he was the only finalist for harp at the German Music Competition, was selected for the 50th national selection concerts for young artists, and has been supported by the German Music Council as a soloist since 2008. He also received awards at the competition of the Musical Academy Würzburg (1st prize and special prize) and at the German University Competition. Recently, he won the 1st prize and two special prizes for the best interpretation of the two final concerts (Handel and Debussy) at the '6th International Harp Contest Arpista Ludovico' in Madrid. At 17, he made his debut as a soloist with the Czech Chamber Philharmonic Prague. Since then, he has regularly been invited as a soloist by various renowned orchestras. Since 2016, he has followed a call as a professor of harp at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg.
