Hikaru Kanki is a Japanese pianist and chamber musician focusing on song. Her concert activities lead her to Carnegie Hall in New York, Wigmore Hall in London, Semperoper Dresden, as well as to festivals such as the Summer Music Days Hitzacker, LIEDBasel, and Pacific Music Festival.
Hikaru Kanki is a prizewinner of numerous international competitions. She won 1st prize at the International Piano Competition "Lia Tortora" (2014) in Italy and 2nd prize and the Audience Prize at the International Lake Constance Music Competition (2019). She received awards as the best pianist at the International Helmut Deutsch Lied Competition (2018), at the Maritim Music Prize (2018), and at the Wigmore Hall/Bollinger International Song Competition (2022). At the 54th International LiedDuo Competition IVC 's-Hertogenbosch (2021) in the Netherlands, she received 1st prize with baritone Arvid Fagerfjäll and the Rudolf-Jansen Pianist Prize (2021).
She was a scholarship recipient from the "Agency for Cultural Affairs, Government of Japan", "Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Hannover e.V.", and the Udo Reinemann International Masterclass. For the 2023-2024 season, she was a Britten Pears Young Artist. In 2023, she received the "Dorothea Erxleben" scholarship.
Since 2020, she has been a lecturer for piano accompaniment at HMTM Hannover. Starting from the winter semester 2023/24, she will also teach song interpretation and conduct her own artistic project focusing on contemporary song at HMTM Hannover.
She received her musical education up to the concert exam at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover with Roland Krüger and Jan Philip Schulze. Further artistic impulses came from Bernd Goetzke, Ian Fountain, Walter Blankenheim, Vladimir Ovchinnikov, Andrzej Jasinski, Brigitte Fassbaender, Renée Fleming, Peter Schreier, Ian Bostridge, Anne Le Bozec, and Hartmut Höll.
