2026 horizonte - Multivisionsshows - "Das neue Syrien"
After the great success of his first live report on Syria before the war, the new live report by Lutz Jäkel is a journalistic protocol, an emotional look at a country in upheaval, at Syria and its people after the war and dictatorship.
Lutz Jäkel, photojournalist and author, has known Syria for over thirty years, both up close and from afar. He lived in Damascus, traveled extensively throughout the country, made friendships, and came to love the Syria of the people, not that of power. For fourteen years, he had to stay away because of the war. To him, Syria seemed lost, the revolution of 2011 a failure. Many thought so.
Then, suddenly, the turning point in December 2024. The regime falls. And only a few days later, Lutz Jäkel sets out on his journey, returning to the battered country, and a few months later he travels there again. He meets old acquaintances and long-time friends.
The return to Syria is the most personal journey for the Middle East expert. A quest for traces in a torn but not lost country. During his travels through the new Syria, Lutz hears stories of grief, loss, but also of incredible resilience, hope, and the beauty of human connection. He speaks with people who have stayed or returned, documenting their stories, their doubts, their quiet confidence as well as their joy over the new freedom.
