"wilde Zeiten"
Susi Raith & die Spießer
„wilde Zeiten“
Allgäu Premiere
Witty stories and home sound from the Upper Palatinate “Wilde Zeiten” - that’s the name of the second program of the Spießer “Sometimes I'm a Spießer and then I'm a Genusser and then I'm a sunshine and then I'm like sour wine.” When “Susi Raith und die Spießer” sing in harmony, accompanied by light-hearted major chords on guitar and ukulele, it sounds as easy, lively, and full of joy as life can sometimes be. Well, we are all just how we are. Each with edges and corners and everyone is sometimes a Spießer. How simple. How liberating. How charmingly human and at the same time musically top-notch. In between, the four musicians like to share amusing tidbits from behind the scenes.
That’s how they are, Susi Raith and her Spießer! For nearly 20 years, she sang as one half of the Raith sisters effortlessly over multiple tonal ranges, sometimes powerful and distinctive, sometimes delicate and quiet. Since 2019, they have been accompanied by three well-traveled multi-instrumentalists with diverse inspirations from classical, folk music, pop, and rock. Musicians out of passion, like themselves, who can also sing harmoniously and play a variety of instruments. Because besides keyboards, guitars, and bass, the ukulele is often strummed, the accordion is swung, and the percussion is played. In between, the four musicians like to share amusing anecdotes.
The sound from their homeland, the Upper Palatinate, is clearly audible, but with its own distinct timbre: sometimes with gentle melodies, but certainly not kitschy! Sometimes poppy, sometimes driving rock and loud, but not noisy! Sometimes emotional, but not overly dramatic and mostly in dialect. Blues-rocky reminds “Wieda mal gschafft, a durchzechte Nacht” of tired but happy hours in the dawn.
Guitarist and bassist Jochen Goricnik, the band's rock representative known to many from the Ringlstetter band, adds the right dose of rock'n'roll in his arrangements. All of this is layered over the grounding and at the same time ethereally light sound carpet laid out by Sebastian Stitzinger with keyboards and accordion, over which he casually sings a third voice - and that in the highest tones. Max Seelos, whose name is also known from bands like the Keller Steff, always provides the right groove as the son of jazz legend Ambros Seelos, and when he gets inspired, he offers one of his own songs.
Everyone contributes musically and with creative songwriting, sometimes writing their lyrics from the soul, grieving love pain, or overflowing with love joy, rejoicing in a child's smile in Nepal, commenting with a wink on everyday situations that everyone knows and that simply annoy. No topic in the songs is the much-sung Bavarian beer. The four prefer to drink it and dig a little deeper thematically.
With success, as seen after the concerts.
When the audience happily smiles while sipping a beer or wine and googles the next concert date. A program to enjoy, listen to, and participate in.
