The legendary British saxophonist Stan Sulzmann has been an extremely influential figure at the forefront of the British jazz scene for almost 50 years. He is considered one of the most original voices in jazz – both as a composer and improviser – and has played a significant role in every important development in music since the 1960s.
His family has German roots and came to London's East End from the Mosel region in the 19th century, where they settled with a tailoring business on Savile Row.
Sulzmann's own career dates back to the early 1960s. In 1987, he won the city music competition organized by WDR in Cologne with his band Bongo Tropical. One of his great passions is Latin American rhythms combined with jazz and polyrhythmic playing. Remembering Roger
