Torfrock - Sommer Open Air 2026 | Gifhorner Schlossnächte
Let's put it this way: If someone had said recently, over fifty-four years ago, that we would one day celebrate the 48th anniversary of the band, that person would probably have been accused of having consumed a few too many horns of mead – although unjustly, as it turns out. It's a crazy story. And by the way, in 2025, we are already celebrating our 34th (!!!) hardcore Bagaluten-Wiehnacht. And we even have goals: In 2027, we want to celebrate our 50 (!) stage anniversary together with you.
With their consistency, authenticity, and joy of playing, they remain true to themselves and their fans even after almost five decades. The 48 years of live expertise, fresh and rocking arrangements of their unmistakable classics, as well as the Torfmoorholmer humor make each concert a special experience.
The lineup of Torfrock has indeed changed a bit over the years. Today, Torfrock consists of Klaus Büchner, one of the two founding fathers, who once met Raymond Voß at the Hamburg Ernst-Deutsch-Theater to set texts by Edgar Allan Poe to music. With a crazy idea, Torfrock got started, and Jimi Hendrix received an unlikely homage: His "Hey Joe" also became a hit with a Low German text ("He Jo"), the first for Torfrock in a long line of follow-ups, and a hit with which the guitar god Hendrix is still fittingly honored today.
Today, in addition to Klaus Büchner (vocals, poetry, harmonica, and bass flute), there are also Volker Schmidt (lots of guitars, vocals, and harmonica), Stefan Lehmann (drums and vocals), and Sven Berger (bass and vocals), who together give the old-school Torfrock sound a modern groovy punch.
Torfrock's (fictional) microcosm, created by the absurd stories from the lives of the residents of Torfmoorholm, the lovable, drink-loving, chaotic Viking group from Haithabu and their descendants (Mr. Wernersen is probably one of them), still has an immensely strong appeal to audiences of all ages today. The timeless song lyrics, the boggy rock-folk-blues-punk-boogie (briefly: utility rock), and the typical Büchner humor allow concert-goers to celebrate a peaceful and joyful Torfrock party together with the band.
