Roger Stein & Band - Ist es nicht schön hier
There are places that only begin to shine in the right light – and sometimes that light is a song.
In his new trio program "Ist es nicht schön hier", Roger Stein transforms the everyday into poetry.
He focuses the magnifying glass on the seemingly banal and discovers entire universes with his band. With Ferdinand Roscher on bass and Simon Froschauer on percussion and drums, even the waiting line at the office becomes a music-philosophical reflection on how important numbers are in our society – about patience and humanity, and of course with groove!
Stein does not portray smooth heroes in his new songs, but rather vibrant characters – with all their breaks, contradictions, and subtle yearnings. In the "Lobbyisten-Tango", for example, power dances with morality, but instead of pointing fingers, there is winking, instead of cynicism – empathy.
Roger Stein has a fine sense for nuances and discovers even a spark of warmth in the coolest characters. A panopticon of the present unfolds in these songs: Friendship, the shortage of skilled workers, survival artists, and self-survivalists share the stage, encounter each other, clash with one another – and yet all remain part of the same, sometimes quirky, sometimes beautiful world, poetically captured in rhyming language.
Musically, Simon Froschauer (drums, percussion) and Ferdinand Roscher (bass) give the songs a fiery fresh uptempo punch – somewhere between rockabilly and folk but firmly anchored in the grand tradition of German-language songwriting. Fast-paced comedy numbers stand in lively dialogue with touching ballads, creating a program that invites both laughter and listening. A sound between asphalt dust and twilight, between dance hall and bar, between irony and intimacy. "Ist es nicht schön hier" is more than an album and program title – it is an invitation to lift one’s gaze, to tilt the perspective, to seek beauty in the crooked. Roger Stein shows: Beauty is not a place. It is a moment that is noticed. Roger Stein has long found his artistic home with his songs on the record label of Konstantin Wecker, where he has been releasing his albums since 2013. Since then, he has remained loyal to the label, very much in line with the motto: "Ist es nicht schön hier..."
