At Ruf Records, one milestone follows the next: Just recently, the internationally renowned blues/rock label celebrated its 30th anniversary in grand style, and now its popular live revue Blues Caravan is next in line. In 2026, the show will embark on its world tour for the 20th time. The list of artists who made significant career leaps as part of the Blues Caravan is as long as it is impressive. These include, among others, Ana Popovic, Samantha Fish, Aynsley Lister, and Joanne Shaw Taylor – just to name a few.

The three headliners of the anniversary edition, who will now follow in their footsteps, embody an exciting mix of experience, great emotion, and youthful freshness.
Hailing from California, Laura Chavez is certainly the most well-known among them. The gifted guitarist was for many years the driving force in the band of singer Candye Kane (Blues Caravan 2005 & 2008) and has played countless concerts alongside Nikki Hill, Vanessa Collier, and rock 'n' roll legend Mitch Ryder. Chavez knows how to excite any audience with her song-serving rhythm guitar and captivating electric guitar solos. Her excellent reputation in the scene was ultimately confirmed when she won the Blues Music Award for "Best Instrumentalist – Guitar" in 2023 – as the first female guitarist ever. Chavez will take the stage as a solo artist for the first time as part of the Blues Caravan.

Matthew Curry is a true insider tip for those familiar with the blues and rock scene. The American has been performing on stages across North America for over a decade, captivating audiences with his unmistakable sound that blends blues, rock, and Americana. He has shared the stage with real legends such as Peter Frampton, the Steve Miller Band, the Doobie Brothers, and Blackberry Smoke.

The newcomer among them is the Frenchwoman Elise Frank. As the frontwoman of the band FRANK, founded in 2021, she has already performed at prestigious music festivals such as the Cognac Blues Passions Festival and the Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival. Her performances during the upcoming Caravan tour are eagerly anticipated.

Even after 20 years and hundreds of shows, the proven concept of the Blues Caravan remains unchanged. Each of the three headliners will initially perform a complete live set before all come together for an exciting jam session at the end.

Deep Down South!

Originally, authentic and raw. That's the only way to describe the music of these bluesmen, and it allows them to transport their listeners to the Deep South of the USA. The voice of Greg Copeland and the guitar played by Martin Messing - that's all it takes to captivate the audience and transform any place into a barrelhouse.

"In our house, there was always music," says Greg Copeland about his childhood, which of course explains his enthusiasm for it.

Greg Copeland was born in 1954 in the southern USA, specifically in Portsmouth, Virginia. He has a particular fondness for soul and blues music. Who would be surprised?!

As a teenager, he performed as a singer in front of an audience, but it really took off in 1977 when he was stationed in Germany with the Air Force during his military service.

Since then, Greg has stood at the microphone as a singer in various soul and blues bands. For this man, the blues is a genetic predisposition; he has it in his blood and in his voice, and with the Deep Down South project, he returns to his roots.

Martin Messing was born in 1964 in Bocholt (on the edge of human civilization, that is, at the Dutch border).

At sweet 17, he decided that he must play guitar after he heard blues music for the first time in his life with the album "Albatross" by Fleetwood Mac.

He was particularly fascinated by the folk blues of the 20s and 30s and therefore focused on the acoustic side of the blues for years.

In 1994, he entered the world of electric blues with the Desert Blues Band.

In 2006, he made first contacts with Greg Copeland, resulting in the decision to once again dedicate himself to the origin of all modern music, namely acoustic blues, with the Deep Down South project.

KRISSY MATTHEWS, the only 33-year-old Blues/Rock guitarist with British-Norwegian roots, already looks back on over 20 years of stage experience. At the tender age of 12, he performed with the "Godfather Of British Blues" John Mayall. As a 15-year-old, he was taken under the wing of Blues legend BB King, and a year later he was the last guest musician to perform on stage with the great, sadly deceased Jeff Healey. By now, he has earned a reputation as one of the best and most respected guitarists in the scene.
As someone who has experienced firsthand how valuable and inspiring it is to learn from the "greats," he is always eager to draw the Blues audience's attention to new talents.

For example, on his current, sensational successful album "Krissy Matthews And Friends" (2024, RUF Records). There, he brings together a total of 80 musical friends and companions in 24 songs. Among them are high-caliber artists such as Chris Farlowe, Arthur Brown, Inga Rumpf, Stoppok, Curt Cress, Dennis Chambers, Big Daddy Wilson, Clem Clempson, Siggi Schwarz, Hamburg Blues Band – to which KRISSY MATTHEWS belongs in the permanent line-up. But also younger colleagues like Kai Strauss, Miller Andersen, Danny Bryant, Layla Zoe, Vanja Sky, Dani Wilde, and many more. During the European tour to promote the album release, several of these guest musicians were already heard live, which thrilled both the audience and KRISSY MATTHEWS so much that it inspired him to go on tour for the first time in 2025 with five or six of his favorite guitarists under the title GUITARMANIA. RUSSELL MARSDEN, singer and guitarist of the English band of Skulls, which has now released five successful albums with chart placements including in Great Britain, Australia, the Netherlands, and the USA, obviously has the Band of Skulls hit "You’re Not Pretty, But You Got It Goin‘ On" in the program, which ranked at the top of the US Billboard Headseeker charts in 2009.

PABLO VAN DE POEL from the Netherlands will be part of the first seven GUITARMANIA shows. As the singer, guitarist, and producer of his Blues/Rock trio DeWolff, PABLO VAN DE POEL represents incredibly authentic, psychedelic blues rock in the style of The Cream, The Doors, and Deep Purple, which seems to come straight from the 60s and 70s and has earned the band fantastic reviews and packed concert halls for almost 18 years. PABLO VAN DE POEL is regarded as one of the best blues guitarists in the Benelux region.

OSKAR LOGI AGUSTSSON, guitarist of the Icelandic heavy blues/retro rock band The Vintage Caravan, brings a selection of his favorite songs from the band's seven albums, making a powerful statement influenced by classic rock and early metal into the GUITARMANIA program.

JAX HOLLOW, the songwriter, singer, and guitarist from Nashville (USA), is one of the most exciting young guitarists that the scene has produced in recent years. The energetic mix of rock, country, blues, and pop made waves in 2021 with her debut album "Underdog Anthems." She has also shared the stage with legendary rock icons like Billy Gibbons, Rick Springfield, and Sammy Hagar, captivating established colleagues like Joe Bonamassa and Melissa Etheridge just as much as the specialized press, which recently described her stage presence as "Hendrixian...with a touch of Jimmy Page and Eddie Van Halen."

CONNOR SELBY from Essex in England has been touted by British media as the next big star of storytelling blues, especially since his signing with Provogue Records in 2023. He has already been awarded "Young Artist of the Year" at the UK Blues Awards in 2020, 2021, and 2022. The now 27-year-old guitarist, who has already performed with The Who, Pearl Jam, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Beth Hart, P.P. Arnold, and Robert Cray, impresses with virtuosity and profound lyrics.

PHILIPP "PHIPU" GERBER is described by the Swiss press as a blues wizard. With his bands Bluedög, Dögz, and the Hardcore Blues Band, PHIPU GERBER has earned an excellent reputation in the scene over the years, including on tours and concerts with Nazareth, Ten Years After, and Anna Popovic. Known for robust blues rock with extensive guitar solos and driving grooves, the Solothurn musician will also delight the audience at GUITARMANIA 2026.

The foundation of the GUITARMANIA band consists of KRISSY MATTHEWS’ long-time companions GERRY REYNDERS (BE) on drums and SLAWEK SEMENIUK (PL) on bass, who provide the musical foundation for the guests at the highest level.

Visitors can look forward to a three-hour program in which each of the six guitarists will first present their own solo songs, and then share the stage for a final all-star jam session.
