JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR IN CONCERT - Capitol Ensemble präsentiert:
The musical milestone again at the Capitol
When Jesus Christ Superstar premiered in New York in 1971, it was one of the most controversial premieres in musical history. The then-unknown Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice brought the last seven days of Jesus of Nazareth to the stage as an innovative rock opera, triggering both enthusiastic acclaim and fierce resistance from religious groups.
However, "Jesus Christ Superstar" has since become one of the most performed musicals worldwide and can confidently be regarded as a milestone of the genre. Even at Easter 2026, we will once again bring the piece concertantly to Mannheim on the stage of the old cinema in collaboration with the Capitol ensemble.
Under the artistic direction of Doris Marlis and the musical direction of Marcos Padotzke, Sascha Krebs as Judas and other stars of the musical scene will perform two concerts on April 2nd and 3rd. Exciting singers, a large choir, and a fantastic live band promise two very special performances that will not be forgotten for a long time.
The songs will be sung in English.
Who will be participating as Maria & Jesus will be announced shortly. We will also introduce the ensemble in the coming months.
Sascha Krebs - Judas
Sascha received his classical singing and acting training in Heidelberg and Hamburg. His first engagement took him to Tecklenburg, where he participated in The Gypsy Baron as well as in Hair. As a soloist, he toured across Europe with The Best of Broadway and the Andrew Lloyd Webber Musical Gala. Under the direction of Roman Polanski, he portrayed Herbert and the Count von Krolock in Tanz der Vampire at the Vienna Raimund Theater. He played the title role in Jesus Christ Superstar in eight different productions.
As a member of the Mannheim Capitol ensemble, he is known to our guests from productions such as Ladies’ Night, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Jailhouse Blues, I Want It All, The Wolf With The Red Roses, HAIR, Jesus Christ Superstar in Concert, Evita, and many more.
As in previous years, we are very much looking forward to experiencing him again in the role of Judas.
