Jazz im Sommergarten mit Meier´s Clan

The saxophone quartet from Berlin and Potsdam delights its audience with arrangements from different genres. Everything is offered, from classical to film music. The quartet also interprets ragtime, Charleston, tango, standards of swing and jazz history, up to songs by The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, John Miles, Queen, Adele, Lady Gaga, and many more.

Meier’s Clan gives its own arrangements a very special personal touch. From the warm deep sound of the baritone to the distinctive high notes of the soprano saxophone, the quartet creates constantly changing acoustic impressions that sometimes make the audience forget that only four saxophones can be heard.

The evening will begin with the band Achiver from the Hennigsdorf Music School.

Swinging sound plates with a creepy effect: The vibraphone, constructed in the 1920s, features a pedal that makes the sound long and warm, as well as a small motor as an acoustic trick that makes it vibrate and gives the instrument its name. Thus, the vibraphone can sound lyrical, avant-garde, but also spooky. Film composers recognized this early on and enjoyed using it for thrilling scenes.
The WKO now dedicates its 10th subscription concert to the "underdog" of instruments and even more, it is bringing a concert to German premiere together with the award-winning Luxembourgish vibraphonist and musical boundary-pusher Pascal Schumacher, which was written specifically for the soloist by the American composer Judd Greenstein. Greenstein's musical language reaches its audience as a story, in which the contrast between the driven, competing pulse beats of the New York streets of his childhood and the peace of his current rural chosen home plays a crucial role. His work has been described as "beautiful and simultaneously thought-provoking." This newly created music is framed by a concert overture by the wholly unjustly forgotten French composer, pianist, and musicologist Louise Farrenc and the powerful 2nd Symphony by Johannes Brahms - the second part of Johannes Brahms' symphonies cycle. A fantastic season finale with summery, spherical sounds!

An evening, three bands with regional ties, three times jazz at its finest. This is Jazz im 3erPack. The event is presented this year by JA!ZZevau Kaiserslautern in cooperation with Kammgarn. The formations Akkordarbeit, the Titus Weidenfels Trio, and the Volker-Klimmer Band will be heard.

Akkordarbeit
In the Akkordarbeit project, four musicians with rich expertise in different genres come together and let their individual experiences merge in a stylistic blend of tradition and modernity on a global sound journey. From poetic-atmospheric to energetic jazz improvisations, the dynamic range is exploited with great joy of playing. The performance at Jazz im 3erPack is also the concert premiere of the project.

Volker-Klimmer Band
Since its beginnings, the Volker-Klimmer Band has stood for musical passion, teamwork, and a distinctive sound. Founded by Volker Klimmer, the ensemble has been combining the highest musical quality with palpable joy of playing for many years. To this day, Klimmer works with a well-rehearsed team of musicians who share his artistic vision and carry it forward with energy, openness, and precision. At the center is Volker Klimmer's characteristic playing, which confidently moves between free improvisation and sensitive accompaniment. With a fine sense, he creates spaces in which his fellow musicians can unfold. He lays a supportive sound carpet on which melodies grow, meet, and develop. His special harmonies shape the overall sound, giving the music depth and color. In the balance of freedom and restraint, a musical dialogue emerges that sustains, connects, and places the interplay at the forefront. Thus, the Volker-Klimmer Band shapes a sound that appears both open, powerful, and cohesive — lively, atmospheric, and authentic.

Swiss jazz pianist meets young talents

Claude Diallo Situation is among the most exciting formations of the young Swiss jazz scene. Under the leadership of the internationally renowned jazz pianist Claude Diallo, the trio represents a vibrant mix of modern jazz, fusion, and world music. With 20-year-old Leon Frei on bass and Laura Schäfer (22) on drums - both already established figures in the young jazz landscape - Claude Diallo Situation brings youthful energy and freshness to the stage.

Sophie Bright and Claude Diallo met when Sophie, at the age of 5, got to play in the children’s big band led by Romanshorn's Dai Kimoto. Seven years later, Sophie and Claude were already performing together. The now 21-year-old trombonist performs internationally as a soloist and with orchestras, having already won numerous awards. She is currently pursuing a master's degree at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Highlights of their collaborative musical projects with Diallo include performances at the Federal Palace in Bern, at the International Bodensee Conference in Konstanz, as well as a live stream at the Tonhalle St. Gallen. With original compositions from Claude Diallo, Sophie Bright, and Leon Frei, as well as re-arranged jazz standards in a fresh guise, the formation captivates both jazz connoisseurs and new listeners alike. Claude Diallo Situation feat. Sophie Bright represents the future of European jazz: young, creative, and full of passion.

The 10-member Ulm formation jazz-ahead brings the magic of Miles Davis and his companions back to life in an energetic live evening. The band has been dedicated to jazz history and the style-defining compositions of the great jazz eras for many years. With their extraordinary lineup as a tentet (ten-member jazz formation), they specialize in the wonderful and successful compositions of Miles Davis and his accomplices—pieces that are rarely heard in this unique configuration. In their program "Die Musik von Miles Davis und Freunden," jazz-ahead presents these unique arrangements. The formation covers various styles—from hard swing and bebop to Latin and funk—bringing to light some forgotten treasures of jazz history.

Since there is hardly any sheet music available for this rare configuration, jazz-ahead has exclusive arrangements written by renowned arrangers, creating a distinctive sound that allows the classics to shine with new brilliance. The pieces are presented with small stories and anecdotes about their creation.

The music of Berlin composer and double bassist Jaspar Libuda is situated at the intersection of neoclassicism, film music, and soundscapes, with a blend of fixed arrangements and improvisation. He is known for his sensitive and virtuosic bowing on the double bass.

Jaspar Libuda’s compositions are classical soundscapes, musical stories without words, a love letter to melody and the deep feelings it can evoke. A combination of virtuosic double bass artistry and electroacoustic music. Using a specially built five-string double bass with a high C string, loop station, and live electronics, Jaspar Libuda creates an entire ensemble before the ears of his audience. He layers surfaces and rhythms on top of one another. Weaves melodies and silence into a dense sound world, simultaneously melancholic and full of zest for life. A state of suspension between styles and genres. A border crossing between classical, neoclassicism, jazz, rock, pop, and minimal music. With timbres reminiscent of cello, percussion, guitar, and oud.

Timeless with a touch of nostalgia – that is the motto of the Grammophon Jazzband from Hamburg. With their Christmas program "Silent Night, Swingin’ Night", the four likable musicians invite you to an atmospheric concert full of swing, warmth, and festive ambiance.

Whether jazz, swing, soul, or lounge – the quartet effortlessly switches between styles and gives well-known American Christmas songs and jazz classics a new, elegant twist. At the center is the wonderfully airy, brilliant voice of Nora Becker. As a singer, speaker, and vocal coach, she is known throughout Germany – whether with renowned bands and projects such as the NDR Bigband, Jazzkantine, or Ensemble Du Verre, but also as a versatile voice for well-known spots on radio and television.

The Grammophon Jazzband has been a staple of the cultural and event scene since 2010 and is touring across Germany with numerous performances each year. Their debut album "Nora Becker & Grammophon Jazzband" was released in 2017. At "Silent Night, Swingin’ Night", many a nostalgic listener will feel transported back to the era of shellac records and great jazz singers – timeless, charming, and wonderfully swinging.
