ABBEY LANE is the first and only Beatles tribute band in Kassel and North Hesse. We exclusively play Beatles compositions – a respectful homage to the great band from the northwestern English port city of Liverpool: Nothing less than the most influential pop and rock group of the 20th century, whose long shadow continues to reach into the new millennium.
The four "moptops" have created timeless music that, even over 50 years after its inception, still feels fresh and inspiring not only to older musicians and listeners. Especially in countries like England, Ireland, and the USA, Beatles songs are standard repertoire for bands and singers in pubs and clubs. This so-called "light muse" has become a true folk music. It is the new classic and will undoubtedly be passed on to future generations.
Formed in 2017, ABBEY LANE consists of four musicians of different ages who all share a passion for the creative heights of the Beatles.
Of course, various giant hits belong in our program, as well as numerous buried treasures from the nearly 300 songs of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr: single B-sides and tracks that, due to the many earworms on the LPs, have been unjustly (almost) overlooked. At ABBEY LANE concerts, musical wallflowers stand side by side with the hits. The PLAYLIST shows you our selection.
ABBEY LANE does not see itself as just another cover band, churning out uninspired and dusty oldie shows; the audience will search in vain for costumes and wigs at our concerts. We are an ambitious and spirited band with an exciting repertoire that comes across fresh and crisp – also due to the lesser-known pieces included. In addition to unchanged hits like "Help" and "Paperback Writer," ABBEY LANE has integrated some of its own ideas, varied some arrangements, and created new tonal colors with the help of instruments like the Clavinet. This can make a song like "Lucy in the Sky" suddenly sound unusually funky. As surprise elements, various musical quotes from prominent Beatles contemporaries have been incorporated: You may be able to hear Jimi Hendrix, Cream, the Rolling Stones, and David Bowie.
Offering an elevated musical level, the four-member Kassel band presents a diverse, energetic program with many highlights from all developmental stages of the Fab Four in contemporary sound – focuses include the psychedelic and late phases of the Beatles. So: More Walrus, Strawberry Fields, Lucy, and Abbey Road than Twist and Shout.
We place great importance on ensuring that even in quiet and slow ballads, the groove is never lacking – the audience will have a hard time keeping their feet still. But we promise: The recognizability of all songs is always maintained because we do not want to reinvent the originals. A concert with ABBEY LANE will rather feel like a meeting with old friends who have changed their hairstyle and clothing after years – surprising, indeed, but always highly pleasant.
