Julia Meladin is a phenomenon: “Angst,” the debut single of the newcomer, has garnered over 1.3 million streams in a very short time, and the 22-year-old singer-songwriter already has more than 310,000 followers on TikTok. Why? Because Julia Meladin writes songs that speak from the heart not only to her but to many people, touching them deeply and not letting go easily.
Born in 2003 in a small village in Brandenburg, Julia encounters music early on. At home, Queen and NDW play, and her father plays and writes songs, prompting his daughter to follow in his footsteps. First, Julia plays guitar, then at the age of eight, she writes her first songs: “They were songs about love in bad English – but I couldn’t help it, I just had to write them.” With her first band, Julia not only plays covers but also her own songs, which she produces in music class, before deciding to release a song snippet on social media for the first time.
One of them: “Angst” – a song about one’s own worries and how they can sometimes overwhelm you. Created at home, in Julia’s room, at the piano with a view of the Brandenburg countryside, the song becomes a viral hit. The first snippet Julia releases counts over 100,000 views overnight. “I received so many comments from people I had spoken to from the heart, that I kept creating new versions of the song with my followers' stories. This turned into a real series.
Since 2021, Julia Meladin has been posting her own tracks on her TikTok channel. Unadorned direct songs about urgent issues such as disappointment and loneliness, exclusion and social coldness, or performance pressure and the search for one’s own identity. Just like the completely self-produced piece “Angst,” which goes viral immediately and catches the attention of all major record labels for the singer, songwriter, and musician. After signing with Sony Music, she solidifies her status as one of the most exciting German newcomers with her official debut single “10 von 10.” Earlier this year, her debut album “Perlen um den Hals” was released. Currently, Julia Meladin has more than 5.9 million total streams of her songs and delights over 310k followers on TikTok, nearly 250k monthly Spotify listeners, more than 78k Instagram followers, and over 100k YouTube subscribers.
