Spider Murphy Gang - 50 Jahre Rock ´n´ Roll Jubiläumskonzert
50 years of Rock 'n' Roll anniversary concert
The Spider Murphy Gang has been at home on the stages of the Republic since 1977, and that is exactly where the band's unbroken cult status is evident. When Günther Sigl, Barney Murphy, and their companions get started, every hall becomes a Rock’n’Roll club with driving guitars, a rolling boogie piano, and a joy of playing that instantly spreads.
Emerging from the Munich scene, the gang began its victorious journey with songs like “Sommer in der Stadt,” “Schickeria,” and of course “Skandal im Sperrbezirk.” Hits that have long become collective party anthems and evergreens, sung along by thousands at every concert. Despite gold and platinum records, sold-out venues, and international successes, the band has always remained what it has been from the very beginning: an honest Rock’n’Roll band delivering a magnificent Rock’n’Roll show. This happens unplugged or as a full rock band with big equipment.
The breakthrough for the Spiders came through the Munich clubs, starting at “Memoland,” then in the legendary BR “Rockhouse.” There, Bavarian Rock’n’Roll originated, making the band distinctive. With the previously mentioned mega-hits like “Schickeria” and “Skandal im Sperrbezirk,” the gang made music history across Germany in the wake of the New German Wave. The album “Dolce Vita” sold over a million copies, the venues grew bigger, the tours longer, yet the core of their success remained the same: playing live, sweating, celebrating.
Whether in the Olympiahalle, Circus Krone, huge open-air events, or intimate clubs: The Spider Murphy Gang transforms every place into a Rock’n’Roll party. The fans, now united over generations, know every line, every gesture. Whether unplugged or as a well-rehearsed rock band, Günther Sigl is as credible as ever as the frontman, entertaining with amusing and witty anecdotes. Of course, the loving banter between the Spiders' original members Günther and Barney has become cult. The two engage in a verbal ping-pong on stage, guaranteeing that no eye stays dry.
Even after gold and platinum records, international releases, films, TV shows, and countless anniversaries, the gang has never lost its grounding. New musicians joined, the sound became broader, but the attitude remained unchanged: honest, handcrafted Rock’n’Roll without frills. The band currently consists of Günther Sigl (vocals, bass), Barney Murphy (guitar), Ludwig Seuss (piano/keyboards), Willie Duncan (guitar, bass), Otto Staniloi (saxophone), and Andreas Keller (drums), who joyfully brings the Rock’n’Roll sound to the stage. The Spiders represent five decades of honest and straightforward Rock’n’Roll that takes no prisoners. Of course, the Spiders continue to tour unabated. Rock’n’Roll in their blood, Rock’n’Roll in their fingers.
