Meta Hüper - Wenn es Nacht wird
From Brel to Ravel – Chanson meets Classic! A true delight for the eyes and ears! In the capital, Meta Hüper is currently performing with Sharon Brauner and The Capital Dance Orchestra in the specially created revue "Berlin, Du Coole Sau!" at TIPI am Kanzleramt, and in March, she will stop by Sapperlot with her magnificent pianist Jens Schlichting.
When Meta steps onto the stage in tail trousers, suspenders, and a hat, it feels as if time has turned back 100 years. The Berlin singer is a musical jack-of-all-trades. In her program "Wenn es Nacht wird," the chanteuse par Excellence connects her classical roots with her love for the music of the 1920s and French chanson. The complete musician captivates not only with her singing but also stages the pieces through the use of violin, melodica, musical saw, and other instruments into a unique musical total artwork.
As a singer, violinist, and bandleader, she has been performing for years on international stages with greats like Till Brönner, Max Raabe, and Salut Salon. Currently in the capital, she is celebrated alongside Sharon Brauner and The Capital Dance Orchestra in the revue "Berlin, Du Coole Sau!" at Tipi am Kanzleramt. With the program "Wenn es Nacht wird...", she makes her solo debut.
In her program, Meta takes the audience on a musical journey through the emotional worlds of the night. With charm, temperament, and passion, she sings, plays, and taps her way through her favorite music. Meta transports her audience to shady bars, lonely streets, and erotic milongas, telling stories of joy, sorrow, hope, and love: "For me, the night is security, inspiration, and passion at the same time. Seductive and mysterious, it plays with our senses and awakens our longings. It is the muse for my creative work."
Listeners can expect classics such as Zarah Leander’s “Nur nicht aus Liebe weinen,” Marlene Dietrich's “Ich weiß nicht zu wem ich gehöre,” Edith Piaf's “Je ne regrette rien,” or Brel's “Ne me quitte pas.” Italian hits from the 1950s evoke warm nights in the South and awaken the longing for more. With her own arrangements and unusual instrumentation, Meta adds her personal touch to the evening. Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata on the musical saw merges with AC/DC’s Thunderstruck as a violin solo, Rusalka’s aria to the moon transforms into a passionate Tango Argentino, and Ravel’s Bolero becomes a spectacular orchestral work with the help of a loop device. A true delight for the eyes and ears!
Meta is accompanied by Jens Schlichting on piano. The acclaimed silent film pianist is equally at home in classical and jazz and knows how to give the evening a special brilliance with sensitivity and musical finesse.
"Wenn es Nacht wird" is as multifaceted as the night itself and promises one thing above all: It's worth staying awake!
