Set in the 1830s, Phillip B. Williams’ novel »OURS« (US: Penguin, D: S. Fischer, 2024, translated into German by Milena Adam) unfolds in a fictional Southern U.S. city, a place shielded by magic that becomes a sanctuary for the formerly enslaved – a refuge built on resilience, hope, and the power of community. Through a radical reimagining of the past, »OURS« gives voice to the present, telling an intimate yet profound story about what it truly means to be human. Natasha A. Kelly will host the evening, guiding the discussion through time, history, and the art of building a new world. You’ll gain insight into how literature captures the very soul of a culture, presenting it in its rawest and most authentic form. This event is part of ›Paradigmenwechsel‹ at UdK. The Picador Guest Professorship is brought to you by Uni Leipzig, DAAD Artist Program, Picador and Holtzbrinck Berlin. (Event in English)
