Like father, like sons! And when the father is Johann Sebastian Bach, it can be anticipated that this concert in the charming White Hall of Schloss Fantaisie promises us fantastic music. Unfortunately, it is rarely mentioned: Bach should not only be regarded as the greatest composer of all time but also as one of the most brilliant music teachers. Many of his works, which we love so much today, he cleverly used to teach his sons and other students. For instance, one reads in the preface of The Well-Tempered Clavier: „for the benefit and use of the eager-to-learn musical youth“. However, Bach did not produce imitators through this. Quite the contrary: the Bach sons developed into great, independent composers with their own style. Johann Christian Bach went to Italy as a successful opera composer and served as an organist at the Milan Cathedral. Carl Philipp Emanuel even advanced to become the most significant representative of the „sensitive style“, a new era of sound that paved the way for Haydn and Mozart. And yet, the musical roots always remain present in their works. These two aspects – navigating between progress and artistic connection to the father – permeate the program of this evening. Viktor Lukas, together with friends from the music scene, presents us with a refined selection of compositions for chamber music ensemble.
