Fïx8:Sëd8
is a German Dark Electro music project by Martin Januszewski alias Martin Sane from Wiesbaden. The project name combines fïx8 (fiksejt) for fixate and sëd8 (sidejt) for sedate.
With "The Inevitable Relapse," their fifth album and third for Dependent,
FIX8:SED8 (a paraphrase for the terms "Fixated/Sedated" from psychiatry) make the final
step from a hidden gem to an established name within the Electro Industrial scene.
"The Inevitable Relapse," "the unavoidable relapse" is a nearly prophetic title for an album that was mostly created under the influence of a global pandemic. Their musical relapse mainly consists of a continuation of the course that Fix8:Sed8 has set with the successful predecessors "Foren6" (2017) and "Warning Signs" (2019). Influenced by cult Canadian bands like SKINNY PUPPY and FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, mastermind Martin Sane has developed his own unmistakable style that oscillates between dark electronic intensity and catchy appeal.
Similar to their colleagues from MENTALLO & THE FIXER and HAUJOBB, FIX8:SED8 have increasingly distanced themselves from their major influences and created their own soundscapes. Especially in songwriting and the nearly equally important production in the electro realm, the project from the Greater Frankfurt area has noticeably improved with each album, which is again true for "The Inevitable Relapse." This is evident in fresh hits like 'Prognosis' and 'Unknown to Virtue' as well as in complex dark tracks like 'Human Harvest.' Additionally, PYRROLINE bandleader Arnte had his skilled hands involved in the production and mix.
After a two-year hiatus from the stage, Fix8:Sed8 now returns with a new album and a completely new and elaborate show.
2ND FACE
was established in 2014 by Vincent Uhlig in the state capital Mainz of Rhineland-Palatinate. The debut album "Nemesis," released in 2017, was widely received as "Newcomer of the Year" and received not only much critical acclaim but also sold well. With the EP "Nihilum" (2018), 2ND FACE confirmed their exceptional talent and their status as a rapidly rising new star in the industrial scene. With "utOpium," 2ND FACE achieves a qualitative leap, and the sound of this album will certainly set standards in the industrial genre for years to come.
The sound of "utOpium" is highly transparent and detailed, yet also aggressive and powerful, perfectly fitting the industrial genre in which 2ND FACE operates and expands its horizon. The darkness of the Belgian school has left audible traces in the sound of 2ND FACE, as well as influences from SKINNY PUPPY and even a hint of the avant-garde pioneers TOOL. Despite all references to industrial tradition, Uhlig also visibly forges his own path, as manifested for example in the use of an EMS Synthi AKS and PPG-300 Modular System inherited from his father – the Krautrock pioneer Wolf-Rüdiger Uhlig (MURPHY BLEND, HANUMAN). Lyrically, "utOpium" delves into the depths of the human mind and embarks on a philosophical journey towards self-discovery. Furthermore, 2ND FACE subtly holds up a mirror to society, which collectively opts for self-hypnosis through (social) media in light of climate change, plague, and war.
Live, Vincent Uhlig is supported by drummer Maxagon and Martin Sane (FIX8:SED8) on keyboard/synths.
Data Void
is the joint project of Don Gordon (NUMB) and James Mendez (Jihad), both of whom have a long history in industrial and dark electro.
Data Void’s music combines NUMB's driving rhythms and compelling sound design with Jihad's dark melodies. In their first release "Strategies of Dissent," the two veterans seamlessly integrate various elements of contemporary electronic music - from industrial, drum & bass, dark ambient, to post-punk, experimental, EDM, and even dub and psychedelica - into a coherent sound that both seduces and challenges the listener.
The album also has a strong lyrical focus, underscored by Data Void’s use of two lead singers.
The songs on "Strategies of Dissent" tackle themes from our current era; a world where, according to JG Ballard, "the advanced societies of the future will not be ruled by reason. They will be driven by irrationality, by competing systems of psychopathology." However, the album is not a bleak, nihilistic tirade; rather it addresses the place of the individual in a world where powerful social and technological forces create uncertainty and where cults, conspiracies, ego, and irrational belief hold more sway than trust, facts, and reason.
Where words and actions are divorced from consequences, and corporations and late capitalist agendas wield more power than governments, "Strategies of Dissent" is “a soundtrack for the disenfranchised.”
Blame
is an electronic/darkwave/industrial band from Belgrade, Serbia. Founded in 2003, the band has released two albums to date: Water (2007) and Convergent Fields (2011). From the very beginning, the band played a key role in the revival of the local dark and gothic scene, with a sound that is both meditative and energetic, raw yet deeply melancholic. Soon, the band crossed boundaries and released two albums on an international level, introducing their distinctive sonic identity to a worldwide audience.
