About the book »Wohnverwandtschaften«
The title of the book »Wohnverwandtschaften« is, of course, anything but coincidental: As Goethe did, Isabel Bogdan develops a moving drama in her new novel about a shared apartment in Hamburg, revolving around four people of different ages who are completely different yet feel drawn to each other. When the oldest roommate Jörg falls ill with dementia, a responsible decision lies ahead. Are they just a purpose-oriented shared apartment or indeed a chosen family? Wise and humorous, Isabel Bogdan tells an engaging story about staying and leaving.

About the author
Isabel Bogdan was born in 1968 in Cologne, studied English and Japanese studies in Heidelberg and Tokyo. She is a well-known translator (of, among others, Jonathan Safran Foer, Jane Gardam, and Nick Hornby), blogger, and author. Her first book »Sachen machen« was published in 2012 by Rowohlt, followed by the bestseller novel »Der Pfau« in 2016 and »Laufen« in 2019. Both were also adapted into films. In 2006, she received the Hamburg Promotion Prize for Literary Translation and in 2011, the award for Literature. Together with Maximilian Buddenbohm, she was named Blogger of the Year in 2014 for the interview project »Was machen die da?«. Her novel »Wohnverwandtschaften« is published in 2024 by Kiepenheuer & Witsch. Isabel Bogdan lives in Hamburg.
