Hammond Eggs: A Modern Mission with a Classic Sound
Jermaine Landsberger, Paulo Morello, and Christoph Huber have dedicated themselves to a special mission: bringing the legendary sound of the Hammond B-3 organ guitar trio into modern jazz. With playful precision, they navigate through odd time signatures, overlapping rhythms, and a powerful funkiness that arises from the combination of jazz improvisation, the rhythmic intensity of rock, and the heat of funk.
For their live performances and studio sessions, they have the ideal lineup with Randy Brecker, one of the most sought-after US jazz musicians, by their side. Brecker, a virtuoso on trumpet and flugelhorn, revolutionized the fusion and jazz-rock sound as part of the "Brecker Brothers" along with his brother Michael (1949–2007). His remarkable career includes collaborations with giants such as Horace Silver, George Benson, Frank Zappa, and Lou Reed.
Jermaine Landsberger has seamlessly transferred his virtuoso, melodically captivating piano style—deeply rooted in the traditions of Gypsy music—to the jazz organ and is undoubtedly one of the most prominent jazz musicians among European Hammond B-3 virtuosos today. His US debut album Gettin' Blazed, featuring renowned artists like Pat Martino, Harvey Mason, and James Genus, created quite a stir not only in Europe but also in the USA. Guitar legend Pat Martino praised Landsberger, saying, "In the development of an instrument, there are only a handful of truly innovative musicians. Jermaine Landsberger is one of them!"
Paulo Morello is among the most exciting jazz guitarists in Europe. His international successes with Bossa Nova legend Leny Andrade and the late Larry Coryell in Night of Jazz Guitars have taken him to significant festivals in Europe and South America. Morello has also collaborated with jazz icons such as Jimmy Smith, Bob Mintzer, Billy Cobham, Airto Moreira, Philip Catherine, and Pat Martino. In addition to his career as a musician, he is a professor of jazz guitar and artistic director at the Jazz Institute Berlin.
Drummer Christoph Huber shapes the sound of Hammond Eggs with his dynamic and powerful playing style. Huber has left his distinctive mark on the international jazz and pop scene, collaborating with artists like Sarah Connor, Panzerballett, Torsten Goods, Sheila Jordan, and Dephazz.
