GUEST PERFORMANCE
AUF WIEDERSEH´N IRGENDWO IN DER WELT
Songs and autobiographical texts by Jewish emigrant composers
A musical journey with Frederike Haas (vocals) and Ferdinand von Seebach (piano)
Duration: approx. 1 hour 20 minutes (including a break after approx. 40 minutes)
A program full of wit and lightness between Tingel Tangel, Broadway, and Hollywood
with songs like "Alone in a Big City," "Padam," "I’m A Stranger Here Myself," and "On Green Dolphin Street,"
by composers such as Kurt Weill, Bronislaw Kaper, Walter Jurmann, Emmerich Kálmán, Franz Waxmann, Friedrich Hollaender, Werner Richard Heymann, Norbert Glanzberg, and Mischa Spoliansky
They all shaped the sound of the 20th century in diverse ways: On one hand, they were part of the vibrant culture of Berlin's nightlife in the 1920s; their chansons, operettas, hits, and dance arrangements rang out in the theaters, cabarets, and dance halls of the capital.
On the other hand, they all had to emigrate after 1933 and, often after initially great difficulties, were eventually able to continue their careers in London, New York, and Hollywood.
There, they became pioneers once again - this time as composers and songwriters for the new genre of Broadway musicals.
Light music from a difficult time, composed between 1932 and 1945.
Songs that have not gathered dust and sound as relevant today as they did then.
