In the year 2025, we celebrate the 200th birthday of Johann Strauß, the unforgettable King of Waltz, with a grand anniversary gala.

The Gala Symphony Orchestra Prague, internationally renowned soloists, and the Johann Strauß Ballet invite you to an afternoon full of music in 3/4 time to honor the musical legacy of the fathers of the golden and silver eras of operetta.

With his operettas, such as "Die Fledermaus" and "Eine Nacht in Venedig," as well as over 497 other compositions, Strauß has enchanted the world. The ensemble from the golden city of Prague unleashes a true waltz frenzy and brings the time of kings and emperors of the 19th century back to life.

Comedic interludes, enchanting dance choreographies, and world-famous pieces, such as the "Kaiserwalzer" or the "Radetzky March," promise a celebration of melodies that will be remembered for a long time.

Look forward to an evening full of Viennese charm and elegance, to radiant melodies from the Danube metropolis – to a musical journey for the 200th anniversary of Johann Strauss.

The sibling duo Angela Rossel (violin) and Ruth Rossel (cello) presents, together with their colleagues Laurence Gien (baritone) and Mimi Park (piano), a musical fireworks display of waltzes, polkas, and operetta melodies. Works by Johann Strauss as well as Franz Lehár and others will be featured.

The musicians are winners of various competitions and regularly receive invitations to significant concert series and festivals outside of Germany. Concerts have taken the artists to Spain, Austria, Italy, Croatia, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and the United Arab Emirates, among others.

Gala Johann-Strauss-Orchester - 200 Jahren Johann Strauss (Sohn)

The orchestra will consist of around 20 individuals. We are very pleased to inform you that the focus of the concert will be on the musicians of our own highly esteemed Johann Strauss Ensemble. It is a great joy and a special privilege for us to present this concert as a tribute to the unforgettable waltz king Johann Strauss. Look forward to melodies from various operettas and polkas that will stay in your memory for a long time, just like the world-famous waltz melodies.

The program includes, among other pieces, the overture from A Night in Venice, the popular waltz The Blue Danube (which even plays twice), a potpourri from The Gypsy Baron, the lively waltz Tales from the Vienna Woods, the vivacious Tritsch-Tratsch Polka, as well as the majestic Emperor Waltz. Additionally, sounds of home will resonate from Die Fledermaus, the waltz Roses from the South, as well as musical highlights outside the Strauss repertoire: Frederick Loewes classics from My Fair Lady, Sylvester Levay's touching aria I Belong to Me from the musical Elisabeth, and a special surprise with Hey Jude by Lennon and McCartney. The program will be rounded off with the humorous Polka francaise In the Krapfenwaldl and the popular Schwips song.

Tibor Szüts, who has regularly participated in world tours with major Johann Strauss orchestras, will take over the musical direction.

As a special guest, soprano Tomoko Maria Nishioka will enrich the concert. Born in Hiroshima, she completed her vocal studies at the Elisabeth University of Music and the concert examination in Saarbrücken. She has performed internationally, including at the Teatro Liceu in Barcelona, and has been teaching as a vocal pedagogue at the Freiburg Cathedral Singing School since the year 2000.
