Gesänge der Nacht
Under the title "Gesänge der Nacht", the Camerata Vocale Freiburg invites you to a sonorous journey through the dark facets of the human soul with choral music from the 19th century to the present day.
The evening opens with sacred works by Felix Mendelssohn and Johannes Brahms. Albert Becker's setting of the Psalms and Max Reger's multifaceted choral piece continue this arc – in the tension between darkness, hope, and spiritual comfort.
Contemporary works by Wolfram Buchenberg, Ola Gjeilo, and Daniel Elder open up new emotional soundscapes. Particularly Gjeilo's atmospheric "O Magnum Mysterium" and Elder's touching miniatures give voice and shape to the night.
With William Hawley's settings of Italian love poems, another side of the night emerges – sensual, lively, almost dreamlike. The conclusion consists of two sensitive songs by Richard Strauss: "Die Nacht" and "Morgen!", in which choir and solo violin find a delicate blending of sound.
A multi-voiced concert that listens to the night in all its facets – and finds light where one does not expect it.
