Sänger ohne Grenzen e.V. - Werke von G.F. Händel und Adam Gumpelzhaimer z. 400. Todestag
About the works:
Handel wrote his great settings of the Psalms for soloists, choir, and orchestra during his four-year stay in Italy. The commissioner was probably Handel's patron Cardinal Carlo Colonna. The world premiere likely took place on the occasion of the Feast of the Madonna del Monte Carmel in July 1707 at the Church of Santa Maria in Monte Santo at Piazza del Popolo. Even years later, Handel returned to the music of these Vesper Psalms and used it for the Coronation Anthems written in London.
In addition to DIXIT Dominus and NICI Dominus, several multi-voiced works by Adam Gumpelzhaimer will be performed.
Adam Gumpelzhaimer, whose anniversary of death is celebrated this year for the 400th time, was born in Trostberg. A room in the local city museum is dedicated to Gumpelzhaimer and bears his name; the furnishings on display are from the first half of the 17th century.
Sänger ohne Grenzen
“Sänger ohne Grenzen” is an ensemble founded in 2022 that was formed based on the shared singing in Bavaria, Tyrol, and joint travels and is under the musical direction of Michael Anderl.
Michael Anderl came to Trostberg as a young church musician in 2006 and led the Adam-Gumpelzhaimer-Chor there from 2007 to 2011. After moving to Stams, he never lost contact with “his” choir singers from Trostberg, and some of them faithfully traveled for musical support to Stams. In 2014, Michael Anderl founded the Stiftsmusik Stams there, and the Chiemgau singers were able to participate several times as well. Through Cantare et Sonare e.V., even more singers (from South Tyrol, for example) gained access to the choral community.
In April 2014, the first pilgrimage trip to Israel took place, during which the choral community was allowed to sing at many Biblically known places. In May 2016, the choir hiked several stages of the Camino de Santiago, and the highlight was the celebration of the pilgrim mass in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. In April 2018, there was a short trip to Dresden, followed by visits to Scotland and Ireland in May 2018, where the people were similarly impressed with singing.
Throughout all the trips, the solidarity of the singers from Tyrol and Chiemgau was palpable, and the harmony of the travel groups made these journeys an unforgettable experience.
An impressive musical experience was the concert project “Saul” in autumn 2021 in Stams and Innsbruck by the choir of the Stiftsmusik Stams, where the Chiemgauer were again allowed to support. Then Michael Anderl moved as a church musician to Rosenheim.
To maintain the wonderful collaboration between the Tyroleans, Chiemgauers, and South Tyroleans and to give it an organizational structure, the association “Sänger ohne Grenzen” e.V. was founded. The board consists of Ursula Amann, Margit Schwankner, Gabi Unterhuber, and Michael Anderl.
Rehearsals take place at least one whole Saturday with all singers in Rosenheim, where all singers from Rosenheim, Chiemgau, Tyrol, and South Tyrol come together; additionally, our choir director also travels directly to Tyrol or Trostberg from time to time to conduct extra rehearsals.
The intention is to establish great works in historical performance practice in the region and make them accessible to all.
To achieve high quality, Sänger ohne Grenzen works exclusively with professional musicians and soloists.
