A Best Ager in the bloom of decay
Hans Gerzlich is appalled when he suddenly realizes that he was born in the same year as... old people. During the commercial breaks of his favorite show,
no more seductive aftershaves and sporty cars are offered, but Granufink, Voltaren, and heat plasters.
Outside 50, inside 20, he wonders, "When does life finally begin?" - but once again, the "Personal Pension Information" arrives in the mail. The newly minted Best Ager has calculated: If he retires at 67, he can live quite comfortably from it - for eleven days. That is why he hopes for an increase in the bottle deposit.
But he also reflects on the denial of his own demise. About missed opportunities, therefore increasing serenity, what a new aging ethics should look like, in which profitability plays a role, but does not play first fiddle - and which language he should best learn in order to communicate later with his caregiver.
