SUCCESS COMEDY BY YASMINA REZA:
Crime scene: Schoolyard. Eleven-year-old Ferdinand knocks out two front teeth of his peer Bruno. A suboptimal event that brings together the parents of both boys for a clarifying discussion. After all, one is civilized, diplomatically sophisticated, and seriously grown-up.
Porcelain cups with coffee, a few friendly words, and the world is back in order. Or so one thinks. But that’s not how things go between Ferdinand and Bruno's parents. First, there are jabs, then completely different words are brought up, and a hand reaches… not for the cup, but for the other’s throat.
What begins with two bloodied children's teeth in the schoolyard puddle develops into a merciless battle between the parents at the living room table.
With diabolical humor and relentless accuracy, author Yasmina Reza reflects our bourgeois society, which is torn between enlightened do-goodism and selfish competition. No matter how soft we pretend to be, in the end, only one reigns supreme: The God of Carnage.
