Special tour with the BHA through the exhibition and the Hofheim old town, starting at 11:15 AM
On October 24, 1974, the Bürgervereinigung Hofheimer Altstadt (BHA) was founded. On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, the exhibition presents the history of the association and its successful efforts for the preservation of the Hofheim old town. The spirit of the times after the end of World War II was moving nationwide towards "car-friendly cities," and the modern concept of monument protection was only just beginning to develop. Thus, in the 1960s, plans for an area redevelopment emerged in Hofheim, which would have cost a large part of the old building substance. Resistance to these plans arose among the population, which found its organizational form in the BHA from 1974 onward.
The citizen association successfully engaged in political lobbying for the preservation and restoration of the Hofheim old town, networked regionally with other old town associations, and provided interested citizens of the Hofheim old town with advice and practical assistance. Even after the end of the restoration phase, it continued to advocate for the interests of the Hofheim old town and still shapes its appearance today.
A photo exhibition will showcase successful restoration projects. Historical photographs from the city archive's collection and contemporary images by the Hofheim photographer Heiko Schmitt will be displayed.
Admission: 7 euros, reduced 5 euros (including museum admission)
