Kalipé – Immer ruhigen Fußes
Reinhold Messner was always a man of action, with enthusiasm as his driving force. Whether as a rock climber, high-altitude mountaineer, traversing deserts and ice wastelands, author, politician, self-sufficient individual, filmmaker, or museum designer ― dedication and passion for his respective pursuits are the germ cells of all his successes. These qualities have made the South Tyrolean a living legend. This is why his presence in the media remains strong, and his lectures are an experience. In his nearly 80 years of life, the South Tyrolean adventurer and boundary crosser was never concerned with records but always with the interaction between humans and nature, whether on the highest and most difficult mountains or in the life-hostile ice and sand deserts of our world. Time and time again, Reinhold Messner walked a razor-thin line between survival and demise. Between hope and fear. Many times, he was closer to death than life.
His lecture "Kalipé" is also a self-reflection. "Kalipé" – from the Tibetan "Immer ruhigen Fußes" – is Reinhold Messner's salute to the mountains of this world. Deceleration, tranquility, silence, sustainability, and renunciation are the values that underpin his mountaineering. Success was found in reduction. Also in everyday life. Whether as a builder, self-sufficient individual, or museum operator, there is a lasting perspective that guides him: Voluntary renunciation is a successful way of life for him.
