Bummelkasten - Irgendwas Bestimmtes
Bummelkasten's music videos are clicked on thousands of times daily. The Berlin one-man band has deliciously sprawled itself into the German children's music shelves with their completely mouth-made debut album "Irgendwas Bestimmtes," delighting children, parents, and non-parents alike. Their songs create a magnetic pull that is hard to resist. No wonder: This cheerful A-Capella beatbox sound - with its detailed arrangements, vocal and musical playfulness, delightfully unvarnished and entertaining demeanor - stands out not only in the children's music genre. With sophisticated lyrics and quirky humor, Bummelkasten leans far out of the box, delving into artistic new territory.
"Will you please come!?" - the often used, politely toned phrase of many caregivers - is demonstrated so vehemently in the song of the same name and is so often met with a childlike "Yeahh" that it's almost painful. In "Wandern," a sinfully casual song about - well, hiking, the themes of nature and media consumption come together. But it's mostly Bummelkasten's quirky characters that children enjoy: Max, the escalator-riding toilet paper thief. Susi, the toughest of all princesses, who enjoys grilling pony sausage and driving to the bakery in a monster truck. Shiny, the light fairy, who indulges in a trip through the solar system, but quickly gets fed up with each planet visited. Bulli Battmann, a mean bully at the schoolyard who cries into his pillow at night, or Hausmeister Klaus, the smartest janitor ever.
Since the first Lollapalooza Festival in Berlin, Bummelkasten has been a resident highlight at the annual "Kidzapalooza," the concurrent family-friendly segment. Performing on stage in a laid-back manner from a seat, in addition to the humorously performed songs, it's the loop station interludes that bring great fun. So, take your sticky fingers off the couch, take off the non-slip socks, and go use the bathroom again: Bummelkasten is in town!
