Pierre tells his wife Clotilde about a method of an acquaintance: he gives farewell dinners for friends he wants to get rid of, without them knowing. The idea of ending old friendships in this way, which have become more of an obligation than a pleasure, appeals to them. They decide to try it and choose Bea and Antoine as the first guests. Their favorite food, the music, the wine – everything is arranged and ready for the last evening together. But Antoine arrives without Bea and exposes the two. Initially shocked, he still wants to try to save the friendship and suggests holding a kind of therapy session. What follows is a brilliant exchange, fast-paced and relentless, escalating until ultimately a handful of peanuts brings about the cathartic purification.
