Skerryvore - Tour 2024

The sound of Skerryvore is as breathtaking as the island of Tiree in the west of Scotland, from where the band members hail. Jazz, backbeat, rock, and pop. A wonderful mixture that sometimes visits Steely Dan, pays tribute to Miles Davis, or praises the folkiness of Bob Dylan. With the 2019 live album 'Next to the Roxy,' the Nighthawks evoke an image from days gone by. Cologne once had a cinema that Dal Martino and Reiner Winterschladen simply called Roxy. Thematically, as well as geographically, it fit into the nightly plan of the two musicians. Even before retreating to the studio, films were often watched there. The clatter of the film reels accompanied the two night hawks to the bar adjacent to the cinema, where they exchanged thoughts over a drink on cinematic parameters such as color, movement, and light. With various inspirations in mind, the studio door was then opened. The cinematic experience has resonated in the work of the Nighthawks ever since those days and has become formative for their musical work. After many sensational and nearly sold-out concerts, the five-piece band is now coming for the first time to the Pumpwerk in Wilhelmshaven. In their luggage, their live album 'Next to the Roxy'! Udo Jürgens' musical roots were in jazz and he himself remained a great fan of this genre throughout his life. Unfortunately, he never released his own recordings in this genre.
Since 2015, the jazz singer and guitarist from Bremerhaven, Jörg Seidel, has been uncovering these musical roots and successfully touring with his jazz homage to Udo Jürgens. He wraps rarely played and heard compositions in swing, bossa nova, and blues, creating new opportunities to discover the music of the Austrian artist. In the fall of 2019, Seidel released his second CD of Jürgens' compositions titled "Die andere Seite," which received great reviews. The album includes titles that have never been released in the German-speaking world, including songs that were hits in the US but remained entirely unknown here. With his quartet, Seidel, who is considered one of the best jazz singers in Europe, swings through his entertaining program, allowing audiences to discover the unknown side of Udo. Accompanied by longtime companions and renowned figures from the German jazz scene Christoph Münch (p), Gerold Donker (b), and Christian Schönefeldt (dms), Seidel shares not only high-quality music but also anecdotes and stories on the subject. Jan Plewka & Marco Schmedje - Between the 80´s _ Klassiker neu und ganz eigen interpretiert

For many years, the duo Jan Plewka and Marco Schmedje have been a guarantee for intense musical moments. With Zinoba, they had a joint band from 2003 to 2005. With the now two-part series "Jan Plewka sings Rio Reiser," they paid an exceptional tribute to the band Ton Steine Scherben and the songs of their late frontman Rio Reiser, both live and on record, complemented by a fantastic live band and an audiovisual presentation that is equal parts modern theater and thrilling live concert. This was followed by an exploration of two other artists highly respected by both, Simon & Garfunkel.
Through these encounters with great artists from the past, they also frequently went on tour, resulting in another program titled "Between the Bars," where they not only offered their finely crafted, quiet, and acoustically reduced yet urgently intense cover versions but also included original songs from the Zinoba catalog, as well as from Plewka's and Schmedtje's respective solo albums. Occasionally, another cover version would be added to the program, often songs that told stories of the youth and musical socialization of the two. And thus, the idea for another cover album was born: "Between the 80s," a collection of highly successful songs - classics, one might say - from that decade, completely reinterpreted in their very own way.

LaLeLu, the unique a cappella comedy quartet from Hamburg, is celebrating its 30th stage anniversary, making it one of the few bands with such a long-standing success story.

30. Festival der Kleinkunst: Andreas Rebers - rein geschäftlich - Neues vom Moral-Weltmeister

What is life? Randomness? A joke, or just business after all? That's the question at Rebers' current program.
In recent years, we have gotten to know him in various roles. Whether as a caretaker of the Lord and block warden of God, as an exorcist, people's commissar for revenge and retribution, or as the popular inventor of roof batten pedagogy.
For him, the stage is the battlefield in the fight against surveillance capitalism, digital dictatorship, and what seems to be an unstoppable spread of stupidity among online mobs. Rebers is a man of extremes and thus not dissimilar to Diego Maradona. A man who gives it his all and for whom every guest performance is a final match.
Rebers works analog and can best be compared to a loose cannon. Always loaded, and no one knows who it will hit. Yet, he always makes sure that we don't lose our sense of humor completely. The "humor location" in Germany is not doing well. Wherever you look, plagues, zeal for education, and irrationality are rampant. Everything somehow goes viral and more and more often it smells of those old German virtues, which one thought we had long left behind. But how could we? Today's Germans are not better than the Germans of the past. Back then was just a different time, so the question arises: "What is the opposite of the future?" "Origin!!"
Sounds difficult, but it's actually quite easy. Because Rebers is a man with wit, a lot of music, overflowing creativity, and exuberant love for humanity. Patterns were never his thing, and if one wants to know what this program is really about, the answer is, everything!!! More precisely, about everything we cannot march towards.
And so he drums, hits the keys or himself, and sometimes he even thinks of running away. But that's what the next and last program will be about. This time it's all about business!!

In October 2024, their fourth album "Another Life" will be released. As a precursor, Tonbandgerät has released the single "88 Luftballons," which addresses a pressing issue: the dangers of trivializing a shift to the right in politics and society. The album "Another Life" explores various topics that resonate with the current times. It offers a glimpse back into youth, coming of age, the urgent problems of climate change, and the threat of right-wing populism in Germany. This blend of socially relevant themes and personal reflection makes the new album a special highlight in Tonbandgerät's discography.

Normahl's guys have been sticking to their song lyrics for over 40 years now: loud, fast, aggressive, full of energy, they bring their songs to the stage. Almost like in the last millennium, when they toured Germany in the old Bedford Blitz, bringing down the relevant clubs from Zurich to Hamburg for a meager fee with free overnight stays in squatted houses.
Almost - they have perfected the sound, with Normahl a real rock band is on stage today, delivering each song cleanly on point. Singer Lars Besa draws from their extensive repertoire (Hard Nights, Walk Like a Tiger, That's Why I Stay Punk, Flowers in the Trash, Fraggles - to name just a few of the legendary numbers), effortlessly jumping two hours in front of the mic. Guitarist Mick Scheuerle flawlessly lets his rich riffs pearls from his fingers, drummer Raimund Skobowsky, often barefoot and in shorts, is never short of finesse with the drumsticks and consistently provides a compelling rhythm, the youngest addition on bass, Christian Polzer, skillfully swings his strings to it.
The guys from Normahl are still going on tour today because they enjoy it, because they play songs that have not lost any relevance, because punk is about going your own way.

Simon, who is described in the press as the meanest comedian in the country, sees himself more as the most realistic comedian. In his third solo program, he humorously examines life and all its ups and downs. He talks about his own failures, quirks, and peculiarities, but also about his strategies for turning everyday annoyances and frustrations into something entertaining.
His program touches on topics such as insurmountable differences in marriage, language barriers at the mediation weekend, and the absolute despair on his own construction site. Simon is known for being honest and not shying away from addressing uncomfortable topics and delivering punches in all directions.
At the end of the show, when you are still laughing so hard that you are in tears, Simon reminds you to pay attention to waste separation because after all, you are still in Germany.

Pink Floyd – Giants of progressive and art rock, architects of colossal magical sound structures with a unique musical aesthetic, masters of bombastic live shows - a monolith in the stream of rock history, shaping the style of generations of musicians and bands. Pink Floyd are one of the greatest bands of all time and have long since found their place in the rock Olympus. The story of the originals is told with the last album "The Endless River" from 2014. It was the worthy conclusion of a gigantic musical oeuvre, which represents a legacy for generations. The Pink Floyd tribute band echoes, however, carries on this legendary legacy. And presents on 22.02.2025 at Pumpwerk in a completely revised, fresh lineup. The two band founders continue to guarantee consistency and the highest standards, having successfully kept the Pink Floyd tribute flagship echoes on course for three decades (!) and over 500 concerts in twelve countries. Unique in Europe. Particularly exciting: For the guitar part of David Gilmour, they have enlisted none other than the exceptional German guitarist Dennis Hormes. Fans of echoes have already experienced samples of his fantastic skills in recent years when he performed as a guest musician with echoes. The evening will be moderated by Lutz von Rosenberg Lipinsky. He is "Germany's funniest pastor". For years, he has been caring for the German soul in an entertaining and intelligent way. The German soul is currently agitated like rarely before, as democracy is in danger, some say. Others argue that we do not live in a democracy. It is time to talk about what "rule of the people" actually means. We get worked up, question everything, want to know it all, and then always oppose it. It's time to make sure: do we really want and are able to have democracy? And is it unavoidable? Perhaps we should try something different: monarchy, plentocracy, theocracy, autocracy, or anarchy. Maybe someday we will be content? And get what we want: Our peace!
Certainly not quiet are the evening's guests who offer top-notch entertainment:
Ausbilder Schmidt amusingly rants about all everyday obstacles in his new program – especially about all the losers, loseroinas (pronounced like Smurfette), and amphibians. Comedy with a high density of gags and lots of audience interactions and parodies. The trainer's mission is clear: giving everyone a proper reprimand, which has never harmed anyone. Yes, indeed! Especially since the trainer is really struggling these days: the deluxe Kevin generation unfortunately can't do anything at all. Even the boots need to be tied for his recruits in the morning after laying out their uniforms and bringing the soy milk coffee to the camp bed.
Ole Lehmann, who started his comedy career over 30 years ago at the newly opened Quatsch Comedy Club in Hamburg and now brings out his funniest comedy routines from the closet, dusts them off and brings them to the stage in a new light. It'll be challenging to select the best from the multitude of these sketches. Will it be the stadium horn that is meant to bring fun back into everyday life or the screaming animators at the holiday club? Will it be the cheerful spy phone call to the pizza delivery person or rather the humorous announcements of the train conductors? Does Ole talk about Darth Vader's private life or the glittering vampire in Twilight? And does Adolf still work at the post office and Louis in a Berlin bakery? No one knows, not even Ole himself. "You just have to embrace Lehmann's special brand of humor: always open, always honest, sometimes cheeky, always funny and direct." (Allgäuer Zeitung)
Jacqueline Feldmann would probably still be peacefully lying on a meadow with a carton of juice under her arm and a sunflower in her hair if suddenly school hadn't ended. What to do with the newfound future? Become a chemist, a policewoman, or maybe a sewage plant diver? Initially, Jacqueline aimed for a career as a hammer thrower (no kidding), but this failed due to her rather delicate physique and squeaky throwing yelp. The choice ultimately fell on a desk job at the tax office. Everyday life settled in, as did the humor. The young Sauerlander already knew that turnover tax and value-added tax were not Pokemons. But the stories Jacqueline experienced as a tax officer speak their own language...
Jens Heinrich Claassen finds the statement "Time heals all wounds" utter nonsense, as the sympathetic comedian is now in his mid-forties and time is slowly slipping away. He's still single, living with his mother again, and his best friends are still his stuffed animals. But how does one reinvent themselves in their mid-forties? How do you finally stop writing love songs for women all the time? And how do you deal with catching your mother kissing her new boyfriend? Fortunately, Jens Heinrich Claassen is still not a quitter. With humor and music, he takes his audience on a journey to combat his rising fear of missing out. Perhaps getting older isn't so bad after all. Maybe one can handle things more calmly. That could help. After all, a well-known saying goes, "Nothing rusts without love." That's true. At least a bit.

28. A-cappella-Festival: CantaMare & Vivid Voices - Chor-Doppelkonzert

It is already a good tradition that CantaMare, the hosting choir, invites an excellent choir to a choir double concert. In 2025, Vivid Voices, the pop and jazz choir of the University of Music, Theater, and Media Hannover, will be visiting.

CantaMare is a modern choir with 40 members from Wilhelmshaven and Friesland. The choir from the southern North Sea coast occasionally sings about the sea, but more often rides the new German wave and immerses itself in the soundscapes of beautiful pop ballads and swing arrangements, plunges into the surging waters of quirky jazz harmonies, and emerges with an old hit song on their lips from the musical experience pool. The singers enjoy themselves in the musical amusement park, and the audience does not stay on the pool's edge.

Vivid Voices: The mixed and especially lively, young a cappella choir has been singing for 15 years under the direction of Claudia Burghard. The 45-member ensemble combines current and former students of the university of music. With a lot of pop influences, Scandinavian sounds, or driving swing melodies, the crises or moments of happiness of life are sung about. The choir community likes to address topics that concern the younger generation and sings passionately against the climate crisis or for democracy. The choir invests a lot to treat the lyrical texts with care and breathe life into the words. Through exchange trips abroad (USA, Namibia, Italy, France) and impulses from their own choir community, the choir sings its lively and touching arrangements, some of which are also written by choir members, with energetic groove and vibrant tonal colors. Choreographies and improvisations enrich their concerts. Vivid Voices are three-time winners of the German Choir Competition in 2002, 2014, and 2023.

Matthias Brodowy is a classic artist: a hypochondriac who expects some kind of impending disaster to befall him at any moment. Probably a dinosaur-like meteorite impact. And that's precisely why he believes there's definitely no time left for pessimism. Sounds contradictory? At most as contradictory as life itself. But in reality, it's the only chance to turn things around. Because burying your head in the sand is definitely not breathable!

So why not trip up the apocalypse and just take action? With a smile on your face, because it would be a shame to leave the world to people who you can never please anyway. And then? Confetti! Biodegradable.

Brodowy's tenth program is, as always, political, literary, and musical! In addition, the self-proclaimed representative of elevated nonsense also indulges in refined silliness and grotesque storytelling.

Matthias Brodowy has been on the cabaret stage since 1989, was discovered and promoted by Hanns-Dieter Hüsch, and has received numerous cabaret awards, including the "Schwarzes Schaf," the "Prix Pantheon," and the German Kleinkunstpreis.

CUA – Celtic Escapades
CUA is a band that cannot be put in a box. Its members – John Davidson, Shane Booth, and Ros O’Meara – bring a diverse mix of Irish and Scottish sounds, enriched with blues, bluegrass, and Americana. This unique combination arises from the masterful use of fiddle, guitar, bouzouki, and percussion. Particularly noteworthy is their three-part harmony, reminiscent of the quality of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young as well as Irish cult a cappella groups like "The Voice Squad." These harmonious voices, which come together like a perfectly mixed cocktail, create unforgettable musical moments. RÉALTA – A Bright New Star in Irish Folk
Réalta, the Gaelic word for "star," is the name of this quintet founded in 2012 in Belfast. Since then, Réalta has established itself as an exciting formation in the Irish music scene and has performed concerts worldwide. Their trademark is the two Uilleann Pipes, expertly played by Conor Lamb and Breton Loïc Bléjean. These Irish bagpipes offer an extra octave and a softer sound compared to the Scottish ones.
Singer and guitarist Deirdre Galway highlights the softer traditional songs with her lyrical voice, while Myles McCormack impresses with energetic songs and his interplay between guitar and mandolin. Bodhrán player Dermot Moynagh rounds off the ensemble with his rhythmic grooves. Réalta impressively demonstrates how to create a new, captivating sound with a manageable selection of instruments.

When someone fails so grandiosely and comically in thoughts, words, and deeds like Waghubinger, all he can do is to keep getting back up, muster up some courage, and sit himself on the bar stool. Since planning for the future has never quite worked out for him, this time he looks back and a little to the side. The best stories, for which one loves this character, are retold once again and bolted together with new anecdotes and attempts at explanations to create a rollercoaster of emotions. Waghubinger thinks and talks so narrowly past reality that sometimes one believes to see it clearer than in the theater of their own world.

28. A-cappella-Festival: Alte Bekannte - Live mit neuem Programm 2025/26

Alte Bekannte are undoubtedly one of the most extraordinary phenomena in the concert scene. The quintet celebrates their German-language a-cappella songs with an unmatched authenticity, where EVERYTHING! is produced solely with human voices, including the rhythm accompaniment. At the same time, Alte Bekannte, since their successful start in 2018 as the legitimate successors of the dissolved Wise Guys, continue a long-standing tradition, as Daniel 'Dän' Dickopf and Björn Sterzenbach are two original members of Wise Guys and founding members of Alte Bekannte.

The stage is for Alte Bekannte what one calls "their natural habitat," a place where the musicians feel particularly at home. This feeling automatically transfers to the audience as well, since the band's concerts are experiences for all the senses. Alte Bekannte delivers a highly emotional show that goes far beyond just listening to music, making every performance a communal experience between the band and the listeners. Since the end of the lockdown in July 2021, Alte Bekannte have played more than 160 concerts. Their successful 2023 tour (motto: 'Nix geht über LIVE!') will continue in 2024 with unwavering intensity. Dän Dickopf has happily recovered from his illness. In December 2021, the popular singer suffered a severe stroke, spent two months in the hospital followed by a rehabilitation program, and fought his way back to the stage with iron will. “Music and my colleagues have given me a lot of support and strength,” the musician reflects on the hard days.

Experiencing Dän Dickopf again after this encouraging recovery with Alte Bekannte on the extensive 2024 tour aligns with what Björn Sterzenbach reveals about the flair of the current program: “There is music and lyrics to dream about, to think about, even to bring a tear to your eye, and in the end, people will dance uninhibitedly in the hall! 28. A-cappella-Festival: Anders - Kurzurlaub

In German-language pop music, big names like Clueso, Kraftclub, Cro, or Joris define the great songwriter music culture of the Neue Deutschpoeten (New German Poets).

The Freiburg vocal band Anders can be seen musically in the same context. They are Germany's A-cappella Deutschpoeten. Their style: catchy melodies and intelligent lyrics. Anders write clever pop songs in German, taking the a cappella format seriously and being more than just instrument-imitating covers of current chart hits or nostalgic songs about the balcony flora. This not only delights their audience at their own concerts but also as opening acts for bands like Revolverheld or Thees Uhlmann. With their new program "Short Break," the Freiburgers present what they do best: songs that touch. And once again, they deliver on all fronts.
