One may debate whether pure boys' choirs still fit in our times. The fact that they can enchant and captivate listeners around the globe with their sound is beyond question. For this, one thing is especially necessary: training. So that each individual singer can tap into their vocal potential and – equally important – place the sound of their voice in the service of the homogeneous whole. With the »Windsbacher«, this seems to have been particularly successful for decades, because who does not sit in a concert of this boys' choir from the idyllic Middle Franconia and wish that it would never end? We are looking forward to this highlight of the hour-year!

Improvisation for choir

Premiere! For the first time, the Federal Youth Choir sings for us. The selected ensemble of the German Music Council has been led since its founding in 2021 by Anne Kohler, professor of choral conducting in Detmold. In their hour-long debut, the vocally well-trained singers tackle Tallis' Spem in alium from the year 1570. The performance of 40 (!) different parts requires highly independent choristers. In contrast, the 16 required voices in the score of the Norwegian Lasse Thoresen (*1949) seem almost harmless, yet in contemporary music, the complex harmonics often pose special challenges for the interpreters. Let us enjoy the sounds of this young top ensemble!
