Odenwald - Lesung mit Thomas Meinecke

Thomas Meinecke finds himself together with some of his novel's characters in Amorbach in the back Odenwald, where Theodor W. Adorno used to spend his summer holidays. The forest does not remain without influence on the guests, as it is an Oden-Wald in the truest sense, where not only fairy tale figures but also all sorts of shady characters roam. The new novel (Suhrkamp) by the author, musician, and columnist Thomas Meinecke is a dazzling masterpiece, which incorporates motifs from the Wild West as well as elements from medieval poetry and the deconstructivist-feminist discourse. And overarching it all is the concert music of the 20th century – this is what this novel owes to Adorno.

"I was born under a table...", so begins the life book of Dolores Prato (1892–1983). Born out of wedlock, Dolores grows up with relatives in the Marche region (Treja), feeling unloved and lonely. She works as a teacher and journalist, and only starts to write literary works later in life. When "Giù la piazza non c'è niente" was first published in 1980 in a shortened version (by Natalia Ginzburg), the book immediately became a literary sensation. Dolores Prato narrates – both clearly and enchantingly – domestic rituals, carnival balls among the nobility and the people, and magical practices. The story of her childhood in the late 19th century is a unique painting of a vanished Italy, the internationally celebrated rediscovery of the great unknown of Italian literature (published by Hanser [s] translated by Anna Leube [s] with a foreword by Esther Kinsky).

The exhibition honors the great Austrian poet Ingeborg Bachmann for the first time in Munich with a comprehensive exhibition. To this day, she inspires biographers and filmmakers, literary scholars, and generations of readers worldwide. The five stations of the exhibition focus on the central works of Ingeborg Bachmann and evoke the places that shaped her, the homeless one. The exhibition presents Ingeborg Bachmann as a self-assured yet vulnerable artist, an early media star and style icon, as a political writer.

Jenni Holtgrewe is a literary scholar and assisted in the curation of the exhibition in Munich.

Ein Steinpilz für die Ewigkeit - Ein Abend mit Hannes Ringlstetter

When the news comes that his father will not live much longer, Hannes Ringlstetter, cabaret artist, musician, and anchorman of the TV show "Ringlstetter!", knows what to do: he will search for a porcini mushroom and send it with his father on the "final journey". Touching and reflective, he engages with his father, drawing a multifaceted picture of this "humanistic Christian interpreter of the world", his light and dark sides, writing about the last will and final words. Hannes Ringlstetter's book (dtv) is his very personal farewell to his father and also a prompt for togetherness for all of us.

From Liberec to Jablonec and back: "Tramvestie" – the lyrical tram ride of the Czech poet Pavel Novotný (*1976) – is a multiperspective language artwork. Since 2007, Novotný has been working on this project, collecting, sorting, and composing material from his linguistic environment and his own (language) images. A kind of translation always occurs, not only when his texts are transferred into other languages. A radio phonetic masterpiece that he presents together with his German translator.

Erinnerungen eines Taugenichts - Ein Abend mit Anatol Regnier

He is a universal talent: the guitarist, singer, and writer Anatol Regnier, born in 1945, raised in St. Heinrich by Lake Starnberg and in Schwabing in the 1950s. The son of the theater people Pamela Wedekind and Charles Regnier, and the grandson of Frank Wedekind, he initially turned to music; he published his first novel late: at the age of 52 ("Back Then in Bolechów"). Since then, he has "persistently drilled through family history" in celebrated books. His "Erinnerungen eines Taugenichts" (btb) is both an autobiography and an artist's novel – and a captivating depiction of the post-war era.

Salut Les Amis - Ein Abend mit Ulrich Wickert

As "Mister Tagesthemen," he still enjoys cult status, and as a Francophile author of novels and non-fiction books, he has become the "explainer of France for the Germans": Ulrich Wickert. In his new book (Piper), he demonstrates through his own biography how former "hereditary enemies" became allies. He tells stories of French presidents and German chancellors, of great minds and human weaknesses, and passionately advocates for German-French friendship as a central pillar of a strong Europe. With Pascale Hugues, Germany correspondent for Le Point, he discusses current German-French relations and takes an optimistic look into the future.

When Elfi rents a plot in a community garden, Gerd is not exactly thrilled. But then he discovers his green thumb and can't be stopped. The new novel by Christian Lorenz Müller tells an engaging story of green utopias and human abysses – (”Radieschen-Revolution” [s] Otto Müller Verlag).
A childhood in the 90s meant Lego, Nutella sandwiches, and Wetten, dass..? in the family circle. Die Muskatnuss und die planetare Krise - Matinee mit Amitav Gosh

Like few other intellectuals, Indian writer Amitav Ghosh focuses on the major ecological challenges of the present. He analyzes how fundamental the global environmental changes are and how deeply they are rooted in a violent colonial history – as poetically as vehemently – among others in his narrative "The Nutmeg's Curse" (Matthes & Seitz [s] translated by Sigrid Ruschmeier) and in the novel "The Islands" (Blessing [s] translated by Barbara Heller, Rudolf Hermstein). We will hear excerpts from both texts, read by Helmut Becker, and experience Amitav Ghosh in conversation with Hanna Straß-Senol, head of the "Development of Environmental Humanities" project at the Rachel Carson Center of LMU.
