Papis Pumpels - "Verrückt nach Schlager"
Verrückt nach Schlager
“Why do we play German Schlager? Well, it's actually quite simple: Because we have a blast doing it and because we get to see at every concert that Schlager music brings just as much joy to our audience. And this joy spans across all age groups: The grandchild rocks – or rather pumps – with the grandma!”
For over a decade, Papi and his eight Pumpels have been delighting their audience. Whether at countless concerts across the republic, at special events like the legendary Schlager boats on Lake Constance, or at many TV appearances – they spread their good mood and warm up the audience nicely.
The Pumpels are not a classic party or cover band. They reinterpret the Schlager hits of the 70s – they pumpel the songs – and their performances have long since evolved into a Schlager show with concert character. A Pumpelnacht is a colorful mix of high-quality music and plenty of action and fun on stage.
And for a significant number of people, a slumbering, unknown Schlager heart has even been ignited. Who doesn’t believe it should just come to the next concert, see for themselves, and pumpel along vigorously.
The Repertoire
Well, how should one best describe this? The Pumpels take their audience on a musical journey through the vibrant Schlager world of the 70s. They basically create a festival of love. In a respectable house, one will find that Alice has found a new love there. And Conny Kramer notices during the last dance with Marie: Charly Brown, the guy with the Greek wine in his hand, never wanted to grow up. Well, he was only 17, had blonde hair, and loved to dance barefoot in the rain. In Albany, however, it looks different. Because Josie lives there, catches the light, and cries bitter tears (that don’t lie), because she will probably never get to New York. However, Papi did ask her: “Do you want to go with me?” Maybe they will actually walk over 7 bridges to a little pub one day?
Whatever the case: The main thing is, it will be summer again, and everyone loves Lake Constance.
… And beware: Papi’s Pumpels are not just fun guys to look at. With the Pumpels, everyone pumps along!
The True Story of the Pumpels
On the evening the band met for the first time at Papi’s home, little Janis (Papi's son) crawled out of his bed pretty late – as four-year-olds tend to do now and then. He then came unsuspectingly into the living room and was quite astonished by the large number of strange, funny guys in his cozy home. So he promptly asked his mommy who all these men were. “Oh, they are just Papi's buddies!” his mommy said. That was okay with him, and he could retreat back to his Haja-Pupeja bed. The next morning, he made his way straight back to the living room to check on the situation with the strange, funny men again. But: There was no one there now. And Janis immediately asked his mother: “Mommy, where are Papi’s Pumpels?”
Voilà, that’s it! Just make a “K” to “P” more often and a collection of funny guys turns into a band with a very special name.
Quickly, the name “Pumpels” also formed its associated action word: Pumpeln! And that can now be used universally...
In this sense:
Let’s pumpel together!
