DIE UDO JÜRGENS STORY - Sein Leben, seine Liebe, seine Musik
"The Udo Jürgens Story - His Life, His Love, His Music" on a grand tour through around one hundred cities. Actress Gabriela Benesch and singer and pianist Alex Parker will take their guests on a musical journey of evergreens such as "I know what I want", through "An honorable house", "I have never been to New York", "Greek Wine", "Love Without Suffering", "Merci Cherie", "But please with cream", "At 66 years old" up to "5 minutes before 12", "My goal" and many other hits.
Udo Jürgens was not a man who could be easily categorized. Musically, he moved freely and effortlessly between Schlager, Chanson, Jazz, and pop music. In terms of content, he felt committed to freedom, peace, and above all, love, and was not afraid to stand out. With 61 albums and over 400 single placements in the charts, with around 1,000 composed songs and more than 100 million records sold, he ranks among the most successful solo artists worldwide and is considered one of the most significant German-language entertainers of the 20th and early 21st centuries.
"The Udo Jürgens Story" is the idea of Vienna-born actress Gabriela Benesch and her husband, Swiss director, actor, and author Erich Furrer. Benesch is a close friend of the Jürgens family, knew Udo Jürgens personally, and narrates the evening. With humor and a lot of empathy, she recounts stories, events, and anecdotes from Udo Jürgens' personal records.
The artist, awarded as the best theater and film actress of the year, takes the audience on a journey, starting from Udo Jürgens' childhood to his old age, granting deep insights into his career and his work - following the motto "His life, his love, his music".
Musically, the narrative insights are accompanied by singer and pianist Alex Parker. Parker is rightfully considered the most famous Udo Jürgens interpreter in the entire German-speaking region. In the style of his great idol, Parker knows how to create a unique, highly emotional atmosphere between himself and his audience in a sympathetic way. Udo Jürgens himself confirmed how close to the original Parker is when he heard him singing in a hotel lobby when Parker was only 19 years old.
"The Udo Jürgens Story - His Life, His Love, His Music" is a wonderful and extraordinary homage to the Grandseigneur of German entertainment music - with the big hits and some lesser-known jewels as well as exciting stories about the life of this significant music legend. "A must for all Udo fans!", raved Jenny Jürgens after the show's premiere.
"A great evening in honor of our father, which I immensely enjoyed." The Udo Jürgens Story is the only authorized Udo Jürgens memorial concert by the Jürgens family. The first Germany tour 2019/2020 already exceeded all expectations. For example, the production delighted nearly 1,500 spectators in the Bremen Musical Theater and was enthusiastically praised by the audience and press.
